I do not think he knows what he is in for, or how harshly history could judge him. Now he seems dumb to go just for the ride. He is rumored to have gotten rid of Chris Christie for putting his father in jail, but I got the impression Chris Christie got him a good deal with the prosecutors. Anyways

He is way over his head and cannot possibly understand the world outside his bubble, or New York, never mind the rest of the world

He will feel very lonely once Trump loses the presidency and people do not care about him anymore

Chris Christie did give him a very good deal and, from what I understand, there was some coziness involved. It's so petty and stupid because Christie, for all his faults, had actual governing experience.

I suspect you're right. Donald wanted to WIN but I don't think he has a lot of interest in governing. I really think that at times during his campaign he was, perhaps subconsciously, trying to self-sabotage. Just when things were looking up and you thought he might actually win this thing, he'd do/say something stupid. Not that it mattered in the end.
