Why do voters in the red states think Trump is going to solve all of their problems? They already have Republican mayors, governors, state legislatures, congressmen and senators and yet, things are still bad for them. If they really want change, why not enact it on the local level? Why do they think Trump will change anything? I see no explanation for it beyond being brainwashed by Fox News and the Alt Right and not having the brain power to really think about their lot.

Garrison Keillor has said it best:

We liberal elitists are now completely in the clear. The government is in Republican hands. Let them deal with him. Democrats can spend four years raising heirloom tomatoes, meditating, reading Jane Austen, traveling around the country, tasting artisan beers, and let the Republicans build the wall and carry on the trade war with China and deport the undocumented and deal with opioids and we Democrats can go for a long brisk walk and smell the roses.

I will enjoy my tax cuts under Trump and if none of those people are better off in 4 years. Not my problem.

It is true. We tried to be good. We tried to help them. Now, let's just enjoy how fabulously wealthy we will be with all those tax cuts, have great meals, enjoy the arts, and hang out in trendy cafes.

+1

I am a big supporter of ACA or at least keeping it and fixing the issues. I have been paying 30 to 33% in taxes for the past 10 yrs which has been supporting many of our veterans, schools, some of the Trump supporters.

Now, I'll enjoy my tax cuts and lower healthcare premiums. I will spend my money on vacations overseas. I will do what Trump supporters have been asking for - let Trump's government deal with it all.

You make me sick. You are not a real liberal at all.

/ someone who also pays a 33% tax rate and is sick and utterly appalled at the thought of paying less. It should be much more. Close to 50% probably (We make around 700k).

So what is stopping you from contributing more? If it "makes you sick" to pay less in taxes, donate (without writing it off). it makes me laugh when a family makes 700k/year and is okay with high taxes. Yeh, if my husband and I made that much it wouldn't be an issue! Instead, we're struggling to pay our mortgage, support our children, save for college, etc. because of high tax rates. Have extra to spare? Donate more to the community. Trump isn't stopping you from giving up more than 33% of your large paycheck.

And what these losers don't realize is that the same thing that popped the blue-collar work bubble and led to the devastation of the rust belt and rural areas- technological advances and automation- is coming straight for white collar jobs. Like a speeding train that's scheduled to arrive literally within the next decade.

With the advances in computers, it's only a matter of time before the fairly routine jobs done by lawyers, doctors, clerks, etc become outsourced to technology.

Plenty of experts have written about this.

Soon, the sanctimonious smugness will be replaced by their own despair. And, I gotta say, even though I am white collar myself, I will relish it. To see these smug douches realize that the chickens have come home to roost, so to speak, after the plethora of truly sociopathic posts from liberals in this thread.... man, it will be a day of karma.

AHAHAHA? We did, did we? Dude I 'only' make 120K a year. Guess at the net worth of the man you elected? And his friends. Oh, this is going to be a fun four years. Never did I think the Tea Party would do a 180 and elect a Manhattan billionaire.

To the person who only makes 120K a year -- you live in a bubble if you think this is a small salary. Get out of Wash DC. In the rest of America, that is a very high salary.

Is it? Have you looked at Trump's tax plan? My HHI is $540K. Trump eliminates the AMT and our tax rate will be reduced. I told my husband and he jumped for joy. Thanks TRUMP!!! Oh, for all you middle class suckers, you don't really get a cut. Trump will literally save me thousands of dollars. No, I don't create jobs, but I will enjoy some extra vacations.

I voted for HRC, but now I'll just take my money and let middle america suffer. I don't care.

This here is a true HRC-style Dem. If they don't get their way, they stop caring about the suffering of the less fortunate.

Did they ever? I wonder if you could do a sociopathy test on Dems and see if there's a correlation. In the immortal words of Jennifer Aniston, "there seems to be a sensitivity chip missing."

I'm PP. I wish this was Twitter so I could follow you.

There is already some legal and medical work being performed on the cheap overseas. Also work getting pushed down to nurses and paralegals. We all know it's coming.

I am actually sick of hearing the people in red states being called uneducated. The entire USA is red, except for the larger cities. Not having a college degree, is not equal to uneducated and I am sure there are plenty of college educated people in the red states. College education gives you a job, that is pretty much it! Why are 18 yrs old's allowed to vote if they are not smart enough to elect a president without a college education? This is America. There shouldn't be uneducated people in this country. Then that is our biggest problem, which has not been fixed but all the "great" presidents we have had so far. Stop calling people uneducated.

This rant pretty much exemplifies why people need an education - half of it was unintelligible.

DP. No it wasn't. Your laugh-and-point attitude lost you one election. How many more you wanna lose?

You don't get it do you? Yes, my candidate lost the election but I'm laughing to the bank either way. My taxes are going to be lower, I'm still living in the city of my dreams, and you know what...maybe I'll even watch the orange demon at the inauguration. It's all gravy and when the next election comes around I'll put my money into an actual dem candidate chosen by the people.

Perhaps. Or is it possible you're wrong?

I never wanted Trump to win. I would never have voted for him. But I will still try to help the less fortunate because I never predicated helping the less fortunate on my team winning.

I live in DC, and I wouldn't be shocked if my HHI was more than yours. Why do you think that's so important?

Yet apparently unemployed whites in the rust belt don't have to be personally responsible for their fate.

Why didn't they move to farm country and take the $10/hr jobs that are offered to American workers? Americans used to move to where the jobs are. Now, they just sit on their asses and complain about how the government doesn't bring them jobs.

So true. The only time I hear about people moving for jobs now are educated professionals you got some great gig in a fantastic city somewhere. Or got their dream physician's job had a great hospital. In previous generations people would move to where the jobs were even if they were basic factory jobs. Uneducated whites are too lazy for that now. They self-medicate, become obese and watch reality TV. Now theyre going to have the best reality TV show ever for the next four years. Hopefully most of them will OD on opioids.

I remember when Democrats actually cared about poor people. Heck, I remember when Americans cared about other Americans. Actually helped each other. Can't you see that it's even more important now than ever not to be greedy and all about yourself? It is a problem for all of us. Even Hillary said she will still be engaged in America. But maybe she lied?

I don't understand what this means. Are we supposed to dislike the people who make more or less than $300k?

Maybe they aren't moving because they can't afford to move to the high COL areas where these unlivable $10/hr jobs are available? Maybe people moved to those basic factory job areas in the past because those jobs paid a lot? (Because those basic factory union jobs did pay a lot, but now we just have the $10/hr basic service jobs available). But, alas, no problem. We can get that cheap $10/hr labor from other countries because they are willing to live 10 people to an apartment with no health insurance, no car insurance, etc. (illegally of course). And they, being illegal, do not have to pay taxes. Just something to think about (and I voted for Hillary).

Don't count on it. Bush lowered them beyond reason so that most low/mid middle income etc. pay little to no federal income tax. Any further tax cut will not include the middle to lower middle so it would be about the worst move they could make. In fact, because they are going to automatically inherit increasing deficits, look up the projections, they aren't going to lower yours.

Yeah, because working class white people are all about "guns and heroin." Idiot! Maybe you are the one who is uneducated.
