My realtor didn't give a housewarming gift after closing.

I was grateful for my real estate agent's loyal service on my finicky and difficult person and felt like giving *her* a gift.

As it happens no gifts were exchanged upon closing because she and I both fell ill... but I fail to see why you would EXPECT a gift.

Oh, but do you BEG OP’s PARDON?

I sold this year and got a mug with pens in it with the realtor’s brokerage name on it. Their commission was in the tens of thousands. I remember when my parents bought and sold 20 years ago they got a Tiffany vase when they sold and a very nice Italian dinner paid for by the realtor they bought with as the restaurant was next to her office.

I actually got my agent a 6 pack of craft beer after how difficult the purchase of our house was.

Sellers and their agent were super shady and did lots of unethical things.

He did a lot to earn his commission. And I'll admit that I was unafraid to play hard ball so he had to deliver some hard messages.

But he earned his commission (and his 6 pack)

Call me paranoid, but I'm throwing it away. So that's a total waste of money for the realtor. Not effective marketing at all.

Is it from Victor L.?

He's harmless. You can consume the apple butter

We didn't receive a house warming gift from our realtor, but he did an excellent job and saved us quite a bit of money, so I would rather have that!

They must have said something to you if you know this. What did they say?

I am not thus poster but probably something like- WTF, my buyers agent just pocketed between 20,000 to 40,000 dollars for less than a days work. It would have been nice to get a token 100 dollar gift certificate to a neighborhood restaurant, or some other gift.

It's also tax deductible. It's the cost of doing business, building goodwill, solidifying a good recommendation and a chance to reconnect with clients. Plus not doing it will make some clients feel snubbed.

$25 of the $100 is a write-off.

Maybe they'll follow up with something later? My realtor gave us swag stuff at the closing (uh thanks?) but then later we got a restaurant gift card in a thank you note in the mail. Typifies the whole relationshiop where sh was a step behind and not prepared I guess

We didn’t get a gift from our realtor the first time we bought.

Our second realtor gave us a nice gift card to a local restaurant, then delivered a pie in person a few days before Thanksgiving later that year. She sends little gifts through a concierge service maybe twice a year to all her past clients— and we bought 5 years ago! Cute and pretty useful gift-y things like a reed diffuser, nice spice blends, a sea salt grinder, etc.

Entitled much? I gave a gift to my Realtor -- he was amazing and did a great job for us. Get over yourself.

My parents got a no brand crystal decanter. Nothing ever went in it because they don't drink hard liquor.

I got a subscription to Home & Garden.

Not impressed but don't care either....

We've bought and sold three houses in three different locations and have never received any gifts from our Realtor.

I have a great realtor who bought two properties for me and sold one; she also bought a property for my ILs.
She is great, very knowledgeable efficient, but she never so much as writes anything once the deal is closed. Like, she would say “I’ll let you know once it’s all done”, and she never does if there’s someone else involved who tells me. I mean she doesn’t waste a single text on you once your business with her is done.

Used Redfin as a buyer's agent and got a check for like $6K. Plus a Redfin keychain we still use for our guest keys. This was back in 2017

Give me that fat check over some tacky gift or a bottle of champers.
