My realtor didn't give a housewarming gift after closing.

They must have said something to you if you know this. What did they say?

I am not thus poster but probably something like- WTF, my buyers agent just pocketed between 20,000 to 40,000 dollars for less than a days work. It would have been nice to get a token 100 dollar gift certificate to a neighborhood restaurant, or some other gift.

It's also tax deductible. It's the cost of doing business, building goodwill, solidifying a good recommendation and a chance to reconnect with clients. Plus not doing it will make some clients feel snubbed.

I had no idea people expected housewarming gifts from their realtors. It's a business transaction - they're not your friend.

Holy moly. I just bought a house AND the realtor has known me since I was nine. Does that mean the lack of a gift is a double snub??

I bought with Redfin, you guessed it no gift. But one seller agent gave us gifts! Multiple gifts for a year and now just magnets and calendars. Will definitely think if her if I ever sell.

We have bought and sold 3 times with different realtors. No gifts.

What do you get someone who has $2 million in cash sitting around. Surely they aren't going to be impressed with a gift card or a tchotchke.

Ours left a crappy one on the counter. Didn't meet us in person with keys. I admit I'm holding a grudge and will use someone else when we sell.

I give my friends/fam a 2% rebate and a $100 gift at closing.

Bottle if champagne would have been a nice gesture

I got a thank you card.

Bought 3 houses, sold 2. Never got a gift from any realtor. The only time I got anything was when I bought from a builder (still used agents on both ends). My neighbors got the same gift -- a Tiffany glass bowl.

We received a framed black and white sketch of our house. Great gift!

We got champagne at closing and a bottle of Pinot noir to take home. That was nice but I wouldn't have noticed or cared if she hadn't done it either. Although ours also says she will provide the wine or alcohol if you end up having a housewarming party which is also nice. She's pretty great actually.

Got a gift basket. Wasn't expecting it, and didn't really care.
What made us really like our realtor was the free use of their moving truck. They also sponsor multiple charity events that are very well attended in our neighborhood.
