But I don't get the animosity against Rachel Roy, if Jay-Z did have an affair with her. Indicative of a broken moral compass for sure, and there's no excuse with getting involved with a married man. But Jay-Z is the one who made and broke vows of fidelity. The Bee-hive should rage against him, FAR, FAR more than Rachel Roy.

Also, if "Becky" is a white girl, how can "Becky with the good hair" allude to Roy? Roy's Indian, not white.

Roy is part Indian, part white I think.

Who said Becky was white or that good hair alluded to a white woman's hair?

Well now it's clear why this thread sucks, it's full of white women speaking on things they have no clue about. "Hip hop trash". Old white women at that.

Carry on.

Because skin color dictates who can interpret music. Got it.

Every space isn't for you. This wasn't just music, but you can't see that dear privileged one

Frank Sinatra: Fake

Aretha Franklin: Phony

Elvis Presley: Fraud

Bob Dillon convinced a lot of people that singer-songwriter is the only way to be an artist.

Sorry, my money is green to Beyonce and her music didn't come with warning label turning anyone who was not black away... Please get over yourself. I am just as much female as she is. And she is WAY more privileged than I will EVER be.

She can't write anything. Waste of time.

+1.

She's a fake artist but an authentic (and very sophisticated) hustler.

It is internet myth that she doesn't write her own music. She collaborates with others and co-writes often, but it's like saying Madonna doesn't write her own music. Please google her songs and writing credits before saying stuff that is not true.

Dude, there were singer-songwriters well before Robert Zimmerman, aka Dylan. Plus, some artists are appreciated for their vocal talents, ability to produce emotional resonance, expressiveness and charisma. It isn't always binary.

I tried to watch this. I'm only 10 minutes or so in and feel uneasy with the imagery and some of the words. It seemed very evil.

Lol. No one said you couldn't buy the album. You're absolutely right money erases her black experience in America and means she has more privilege than a white woman
The fact that you think this is about being a woman is proof that you don't get it at all.

Isn't this special. Gosh there are so many haters. A quick Google search of songs written by Beyoncé shows that she wrote and co-wrote the vast majority of the songs on her last four CDs. But carry-on hating.

If she changes one word she can take credit for co-writing. Name one song that she wrote on her own.

Gosh you're an idiot. If she changed one word and claimed the rest as hers, she would spend most of her time and money in court. Since there are so many songs on the labels listed as her lyrics, I will change most to all her time would be spent fighting claims of theft and copyright violations.

Wrong. Some writers don't fight it because they are happy having a writing credit on her album and they can get more work out of it. Some writers claim their credit, like Ne-yo did with Irreplaceable, after Beyoncé was saying she wrote it. Des'ree sued her over her song and Beyoncé had to stop selling some versions of B-day. She's not the first major artist to add their name to songs for writing credit and she won't be the last. It's part of the shady music industry. Ad-lib at the end, I wrote the song

Every song on Taylor Swift's 1989 had multiple writers too.

NP. The fact that you don't know what Becky means makes you not able to comment on that part. That's all.

That's because the imagery borrows heavily from Voodoo, Santeria, and Candomble.

I'm the pp you quoted. Not saying she isn't an artist or that lemonade is not great or not art. Did Sinatra claim writing credit on his songs? What about Aretha? Did that make them any less of a singer/performer/legend? Pop stars today all try to claim writing credit. Change a word, take a third.

Huh? I can cite article after article and post after post about how her album is very much about being a woman. May be very much about being a black woman, a scorned woman, a hurt women, etc... but none-the-less about being a WOMAN and what that experience is like. Not sure what you are reading or listening to.

You should probably carry on.

Because skin color dictates who can interpret music. Got it.
