Bullshit! If you spent your entire career putting dangerous murders, rapists, gang members in prison, (while risking your own life) you are very likely to run into one in person someday; they all get out of prison eventually.

What would you do if a guy you put away and a few of his friends recognizes you, and they decide they are going to cut you or rough you up as payback for the 20'years hard time? What if they decide to rape your wife & make you watch?

Luckily, our lawmakers are not so heartless or un-thinking as you PP

OMG you watch too much television.

OMG, you don't read at all, do you:

That's the best you could come up with?
Lol

It's not part of a made-for-TV movie, is it?

Here's another:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3186529/Sister-ex-convict-charged-shooting-dead-Memphis-police-officer-says-brother-just-trying-defend-officer-manhandling-him.html

Now would you like some detailing of ex-cons committing crimes, whether it be against law enforcement or the general public?

Are you stupid or desperate or both?
That's not an example of an ex-con attacking a retired officer nor is it an example of a retired officer defending himself thanks to carrying a concealed weapon. If you're going to engage in the discussion at least try and put some effort into following the discussion otherwise start your own thread about whatever irrelevant nonsense you're so inclined to babble about.

Instead his sister did it. Guess it runs in the family.

Who gives a crap what the sister did or the brother for that matter, this has nothing to do with the discussion as it relates to carrying a concealed weapon.

So you have an anecdote or two to throw around. The problem with that is that the overall data still proves you to be wrong.

The overall data shows that increased gun ownership and concealed carry DOES NOT serve as any kind of effective deterrent against crime, whatsoever. And in fact what does happen is that increased gun ownership and concealed carry correlates far more with increased numbers of gun accidents and suicides.

So not only is there no net positive there are tons of negatives.

People get hit by lightning, but I still go outside.

My neighbor worked his entire career doing either homicide or SWAT. He does not carry a gun.

Yes, they do. People conceal carry all the time, yet you are still alive. Imagine that!

God you gun nuts are bizarre. It's hilarious that you actually think you're protecting yourselves. But it's freaking scary how deeply you depend on being armed.

We don't THINK we are; we know we are. See Capitol Hill thread in Off-Topic if you want to see unarmed fear. They are calling for hiring a private armed security force to combat the wave of current armed crime. Don't blame them - they are essentially sitting ducks, since the armed thugs are not really caring about gun free zones and the legality of their firearms.

More red herrings. A.) It's already been repeatedly shown that concealed carry and more armed citizens does not prevent, reduce or deter crime b.) "Gun free zones" is another red herring and NRA talking point as many mass shootings that happened (like the recent Oregon shooting) were NOT "gun free zones" and c.) there are also plenty of examples where "good guys with guns" were NOT able to prevent mass shootings and d.) the "criminals not caring about the legality of their guns" is compounded by the fact that there are so many venues by which criminals can so easily get guns given gun show loopholes, private sales without background checks, et cetera. In fact a Department of Corrections study of inmates found that over 90% of armed criminals got their guns via those gaping loopholes. Turns out "good guys with guns" have no problem selling criminals guns. The data refutes the fictions.

Personally I think the last thing this city needs is Capital Hill residents walking around with concealed weapons considering they're already prone to jumping at that their own shadows and calling the police whenever they see a person of color. You give those folks guns and I guarantee you within a month they're be sitting ducks for not crime but mass protests because of all the innocent non-white civilians they've killed in hyperparanoid fits of fright, not to mention the fact that the number of suicides and domestic homicides in that area would skyrocket - 10.4 percent of Capitol Hill residents are registered on Ashley Madison the website for people looking to have extramarital affairs.

No concealed carry for those folks is not a good idea.

No...no...no...it ain't about biased and misinterpreted statistics.
A gun is for killing - period. The argument of self-defense comes in after the fact when somebody is already friggin dead and if he's got a good attorney a guy can pretty much shoot a nun in the back of the head while she's walking down the produce aisle of the supermarket and get off on self-defense. After the acquittal the case falls under the category of self-defense statistically but the reality is dude shot a nun in the back of the head while she was walking down the produce aisle of the supermarket. F--- the statistics.

What are you prattling on about?

A gun can also be used as a deterrent. That's the part you're ignoring, and the NYT ignored. All your other words are just useless blather.

Rather than being used for self-defense, guns in the home are 22 times more likely to be involved in accidental shootings, homicides, or suicide attempts.
For every one time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were 4 unintentional shootings, 7 criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides.

CH resident here. The vast majority of us are vehemently anti-gun. There just seems to be a poster on this board who wants to misrepresent CH as "sitting ducks." The insane off topic rant subjects such as Ashley Madison on this post is a distraction from the fact that gun ownership causes accidents and violence in the home and deters nothing.

Lol was just pointing out to the gun advocates that there's a higher probability gun ownership would wreak more havoc in their lives than provide protection.

You asked them to describe their feelings if they knew your sniper husband was carrying. They gave you an honest answer. And so instead of acknowledging that their feelings are theirs to decide, you responded with:

"First of it is concealed, so you would not have to freak out." --irrelevant as you asked how they would feel *if* they knew, plus "freaking out" is not how they responded.

"Why don't you stop sitting on your hands and educate yourself. " -- called them uneducated, for having the courtesy to answer your question.

You probably also think the government infringes on your first amendment rights....." -- tell them what they are thinking. Good strategy for getting someone to cooperate with you!

So now that you have insulted them three different ways, you want to ask a series of questions designed to reveal their illogic. And then you berate them for not responding! Guess what, no one is going to answer you after that display.

You are criticizing the response to your snarky and condescending post.
