Do you love your unusual name?

I really like Margo, especially spelled Margaux

I'm a Dominique. While I don't love the name (the "dom" part sounds a bit masculine to me), I do love that I've never had to deal with being Dominique A or Dominique B (my freshman year we had five Erins on our floor that ended up with nicknames like Little Erin, Erin Tall, etc). I also get compliments on my name all. the. time. which I love.

I will make an effort to make sure my children do not have Top Ten names but I will not resort to changing the spelling of their name to accomplish such.

I am a Melanie..I love my name.

I gave my baby a not so popular name, Kohlby. Everyone loves it.

I love the old fashioned names . . .

I dislike -personally- names that are just too cutesy or pop star'ish. I try to think what it would be like to be 80 and called "Brittney" or some other cutesy spelling of a name, like, "Tiff'ni" (Tiffany).

I was born in the 70's and my name was pretty uncommon. Freakishly uncommon: Jennifer. (Yes, I'm joking).

To the PP who asked about Margo, I love it.

I did not grow up in this area. I think it's funny so many people find it hard to believe I do not know any other Heathers just based on the Social Security website statistics. Yes, it seems it was a popular name, does not mean I know other Heathers. If it makes any difference I am not in my 30's.

I was born in 1979 and I knew several Heathers growing up. I bet some of this is regional (as was mentioned before). My daughter has a VERY popular on the lists, but I actually have only met one other "baby" that has her name. There are far more that are 8. You can't go by the lists. I think in the Bible Belt there are probably a ton of kids with her biblical name.

My sisters both had "unusual" names that are now more popular. When I was a kid I wished I was named like them instead of my not-so-unusual name, although I liked finding my name on pencils and they couldn't find theirs. My name was not super-popular, but it was known anyway. Now I meet all these women with my name because it was very popular in the late 1960s and in Mom's groups most of the women are 5 - 10 years older than I am. It's kind of neat to meet so many!

Now we are expecting #2 and again, if it's a girl I'm half considering Ruth as a first name this time. With the huge surge in old fashioned names, that's one I haven't seen much of. Maybe people don't like it or it hasn't been discovered yet.

I LOVE the name Ruth! It was my grandmother's name, too, and I lobbied for it as DD's first name. DH pointed out that it sounded really heavy/biblical with our last name (he was right) so we went with something else instead. But I love it and think it's a classic. Plus, Ruthie is cute for when she's young!

Isn't President Bush's sister named Dorothy? I think she goes by Doro. Cute but maybe too similar to Dora (as in the Explorer . . . as if I need to explain . . . . )

Hmmm. I know a Dottie that is short for Dorothy and a Dee that is short for Dorothy.

I love the names Margo / Margeaux and Ruth. I also love the names Margaret and even the name / nickname Marge. (Husband HATES it though). I've heard the nickname for Margaret can be Peggy. That makes no sense to me and I don't like the name. I don't like Maggie either. (that's not to say I don't like it as a name, just don't like it for MY child's name).

I don't like Ruthie as much. That's the thing DH and I have going on -- whatever we name our kid, we don't want it to be something with a nickname we don't like. Our boy name is pretty nickname proof but our girls name has a potential nickname that I don't care for. I guess we can just enforce the full name until the child is old enough to say for him / herself what he / she wants to be called. My sister is named Caitlin, and she's never once been Cait or Caitie or anything but Caitlin.

how about Chloe? Too popular now? I love it but my husband thinks it's too precious and possibly getting too popular.
