My name is Diana and I hated it growing up (born in 1979). It was just so mom-sounding and I went by my middle name. It's I know a little Dorothy as well, she goes by Darby. I think it's cute.

Unusual names of classmates (a mix of races): Ingrid, Cleo, Cinderella, Sapphire, Rocky, Starsha and 2 Cinnamons. I don't think they had any problems with their names growing up, but I'm not sure how it's worked out in the working world.

But look at Sophia and Ava. Just 10 years ago those names were tired and dusty, then a few cool people give their children these names and now these names are considered stylish. All it takes is one celebrity to name their baby Dorothy and I bet it's popularity would skyrocket.

I know a little 6 year old named Dorothy. Her younger sister is Lucy, so I guess the parents wanted more traditional names. Dororthy was named after the mom's favorite movie - The Wizard of Oz.

I'm an Ellen.

Growing up I wasn't fond of it, because the only other Ellens I knew were old enough to be in nursing homes. As an adult I like it more, and it's uncommon without being hard to pronounce/too long/trendy.

I went to law school with a woman who was drop dead gorgeous, and her given name was Bambi. In spite of that, or because of it, she kicked ass all the way through law school. Smart as hell. I assume she's just as good at practicing law as she was in school.
