Any bets on who was blackmailing Hastert?

How do you define gay?

No, he's a pedophile. Gender of the victim doesn't matter. Many, many pedophiles are married to women.

I hate that people conflate gay and child predator. One has nothing to do with the other.

He's a gay pedophile married to a woman.

He might not be gay. Pedophiles often select victims based on opportunity not gender.

Ridiculous. That's the most far-fetched thing I ever heard of, but nice try.

Gay men don't seek little girls to sexually abuse, any more than a heterosexual man seeks to abuse boys. The man is clearly gay, or possibly bi, but certainly not heterosexual if the allegations are correct.

How can you verify gayness, anyways?

I'm sorry but the research says you are wrong. The James Madison report on the catholic church's sex scandal covered this if you are interested in learning more.

If that's your only source, I'm not impressed.
Can you name one single gay man sexually abusing a female child?
No. They go after boys.

Hastert is gay.

i'm open to the idea that the blackmailer has made something sexual out of a legitimate coaching situation, perhaps, but enough for Hastert to worry that he wouldn't be able to tell his side without, well, all of this.

i'm also open to the idea that Hastert did something inappropriate and wants to cover it up, but my money's on the other option.

You think Denny Hastert would agree to pay $3.5 million to cover up something that was not sexual but was instead a "legitimate coaching situation"? Maybe I'm naive, but wouldn't that look a hell of a lot worse than just coming clean about whatever it was?

Not my area of expertise either, but I believe that technically a pedophile is an adult who is interested in and attracted to children who have not yet entered puberty. The term does not refer to adults attracted to young people who have already gone through puberty.

So what do you want to call the guy sexually abusing 14 or 15 year old kids?
A pedophile.

A rapist.

Given the skeletons in his closet, the fact that Hastert decided to go into politics and especially to serve as Speaker of the House shows a staggering sense of invincibility, no?

No, not every pedophile is a rapist, regardless of the victim's age.

Let's not spend time defending adults who are specifically attracted to minors whether 5 or 15, whether boy or girl.

Why prosecute Hastert and not the extortionist ??

Let's not spend more time demonzing the people who have that attraction and who have not messed with any kids. It's a sick pathology, but they're unlikely to seek treatment if they're lumped in with rapists.

What baffles me is that so far there's only one victim. I think of pedophiles as constant victimizers once they start.

No one here has defended any abuser.
