Not necessarily. He may have just not wanted the allegation to even come up possibly because there could've been more victims. |
Does seem more like molestation based on this Post excerpt.
The indictment did not spell out the exact nature of the “prior misconduct” by Hastert against the individual from his hometown, Yorkville, but noted that before entering politics in 1981, Hastert spent more than a decade as a teacher and wrestling coach at the local high school. The unnamed individual has known Hastert for most of that person’s life, the indictment states. |
I was just talking with my husband about this. Said I was completely confused. He read online coverage for a minute and said well, its obvious - he was molesting boys, probably his wrestling students. Hate to say it, but I guess that makes sense. Why else would you pay enormous amounts of money indefininitely? You can get past financial misconduct - almost merits a 'meh' anymore - but there's no getting past child molestation - especially homosexual child molestation. I hope that's not the case, but given recent (and not so recent) events, it wouldn't surprise me. |
Sadly this is probably right. But it does surprise me, having worked in politics a long time, that this wasn't outed during his tenure as Speaker. |
I would also assume there is some evidence from the time, or an incriminating recording, something like that. $3.5 million for an out-of-the-blue allegation from decades ago is a lot. And why not hire a lawyer and reach a proper settlement? Or is something like that public? (Asking you lawyers out there.) Thinking of the Bill Cosby cases. |
Hell, he should have been a Montgomery County teacher to get better protection of such predatory acts.
Btw, one of the recent MC sex abuser teachers is due to get his sentence today. Max of five years. |
It still is incredible to me that MC knew about one of these teacher's crimes against children, and still allowed him to teach Kindergarten. What were they thinking?!? |
Ya'll, I'm no fan of Denny Hastert or Republicans, but you're really jumping to conclusions with this molestation speculation. |
+2 |
I don't think it's a he-said/she-said anymore - paying this much hush up money makes it pretty obvious that he's guilty. |
Hastert's lawyers apparently asked the U.S. Attorney to withhold details in the indictment:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/johnstanton/former-us-speaker-of-the-house-dennis-hastert-indicted?utm_term=.aclYLppLA7#.blxXyVv4D the story says the U.S. Attorney was originally "prepared to move forward with a much more explicit indictment of Hastert" but "ultimately agreed to limit the amount of information in the indictment. . . in part because of a request from Hastert’s attorneys." |
I'm betting the secrecy doesn't help him. Now that the rumors are out there, other victims will sell their story. Mark my words. |
It's foolish to suggest that he molested children and THEN sought public office.
It's Duke Cunningham seeking payment. Denny was probably in on the score, but Duke took the fall, now that he's out of prison, he needs some running around money... |
Yep. Illegitimate child is no big deal. Molesting child, or children HUGE. He was supposed to be Me. Clean. My guess is molested boys. |
