Does anyone ever turn down YY, MV, CMI, or ITS

Anonymous
I made the original comment about Bancroft after care and want to clarify that I completely disagree with subsequent poster about lack of supervision etc. I was intentionally vague because I also don't want to start an argument. I did not like the aftercare teachers at all. Let's just say they're not my cup of tea and leave it at that. I am glad others are happy with the school and hope it continues to be a good option for local residents.

We are about to turn down a spot at MV for kindergarten - happy at our current school (Lee)

Yay! I'm #11 for the K waiting list.

Yay I'm 300 plus on the MV wait list!

We are doing the same for the same reason after a lot of soul searching. Are you current PS or PK at ITS. We are PK, rising K. Would love to get DC together to lessen pain of leaving friends.

We got into both CMI and MV this year. Will be turning down one of them this week.

Wow. I kind of hate you Congrats on that option!

Pretty much everything is in the common lottery, so other than getting a call off the wait list and saying no, moving or going private, you can't really "turn down" a school anymore right? But in order for the wait lists to move, someone with phenomenal lottery numbers has to either move or go private, so that there is a trickle down effect for the rest of us.

I suppose someone who's already in a higher grade could lottery for a school on a whim, get in, and then ultimately decide to stick with their current school. But then why did they lottery at all?

Point is, these long stories from years ago about getting into 3 awesome charters and turning them all down was really only relevant when you had to apply to each school separately.

I don't know that I agree. I'm waitlisted at a bunch of these schools, but I like the school we are currently enrolled at (for the first time, based on lottery match), that I'm not sure we'd move elsewhere if offered a spot.

Thanks. I know I am insanely lucky. But it's also a really, really hard choice to make.

We had this choice and chose CMI because of small class size, smaller school in general and arts and music and emphasis on whole child. We do, however, speak a foreign language in the home so immersion wasn't a huge factor in the decision. Also DCI isn't interesting to us. Good luck!

Is commute a factor?

Has anyone ever had to choose between MVand YY? Would appreciate any analytical responses or direct experiences with this choice. Sorry to people who had unfortunate luck this year. Have this choice after several years of trying. Including camping.

Spanish versus Chinese?
Less established school versus more established school?
Expeditionary learning versus whatever they do at YY?

Can you support the language? Do you have any connection to any language?

We live within walking distance to MV but attend YY. Unless you have a definite preference for Spanish or Mandarin, I would pick a school based on an easier commute.

YY was the only public school we applied to bc we really wanted Mandarin but honestly, it pains me in the morning driving my kid to school (and driving back!) when we can walk to MV.

The other difference aside from the obvious is that YY caps their classrooms at 18/19 kids while MV has 22/23 kids. I love the architectural firm that is designing MVs space, very sleek and modern.

But you can't go wrong with either school!

Nope. Both about two miles away, in opposite directions.
