Does anyone ever turn down YY, MV, CMI, or ITS

Anonymous
Lots of people don't even apply to all of those schools. They reject them before they have a chance to get in

Turned down ITS, and YY for Powell.

Turned down--wait for it--LAMB for Bancroft. We wanted a neighborhood school.

I know someone who turned down Stokes for Shepherd.

Whoops, I see Stokes wasn't one of the schools asked about (although it was our first choice last year for the French immersion)!

Turned down Lamb - could not make the commute work to the 2nd location
Turned down IT - uncertainty of loaction (They originally were promoting they would be in U St near their office)
Turned down CMI - could not get all our children in
Turned down MV - twe were there and left as the DuPont / Columbia Heights location worked but not the current location

Turned down private for YY... and happy we did.

We turned down YY for Hyde. Commute was just not a good fit.

Turned down Stokes for LAMB two years ago. Loving LAMB, but know that Stokes would've been great too!

+1 this was us last year. IT just didn't wow us like we assumed it would.

Funny. ITS impressed us the most. Even though we really wanted Spanish, we ended up ranking ITS #1. Where did you go instead?

We opted for a WotP DCPS that we attend OOB and are very happy. But I'm sure families at ITS are happy too. We're just all fortunate to live in a city with so many options (although, yes, the lottery aspect makes some feel as if you don't have any choices).

We left ITS for private. Needed more differentiating for our DC. Also concerned about what middle school would be like at ITS and also high school options.

You got into all of them via lottery? Only one kid? Which school did you rank #1?

I ranked MV #1 and got in off the WL, but got calls for all of these.

Wow, you must have had amazing lottery numbers. Hope you played the actually lottery considering your great luck.

Turned down MV two years in a row to stay at Bancroft. It may not be a MV, but we like being at our neighborhood school that is part of our community, we like having school friends who live nearby, and we love our 2 block walk to school. I watch those MV families hurrying to catch their school buses at Lamont St. park at 7:20 am in the morning and think, so glad we stayed put! Plus they are paying $125/month or something for bus and $450/month for aftercare, while we have no commuting costs and pay less than half that for aftercare. Think about it hard if you are debating between the two!

I think that's awesome! How is Bancroft working out?
