Ok, I'm borderline lactivist and wish more people would breastfeed, so I'm not discouraging the OP. But breastmilk is an ANIMAL PRODUCT. LOL. |
I apologize; I read the question as B6. We supplemented with a B12 on occasion, and ate fortified foods for all the B Complex. Again, I wasn't too concerned with anything but B12, but there is certainly some research out there that shows B12 from meat isn't as great as fortified foods, because cooking alters it. |
Yes, but what is the point of bringing it up in this discussion? Just to engage in facile word play? Are you saying we need a new classifications for vegans who drink breastmilk? If we take this to its natural conclusion, all breastfeeding babies are not only not vegan, they are cannibals! |
Thank you. |
+100. Seriously, people, the vegan understanding of "animal product" has actual principles behind it (that breastfeeding does not implicate) and you'd have to mind-numbingly literal not to understand that. I worry for the critical thinking skills of some of these PPs' children. |
^^ have to be |
Please tell me you are trolling and aren't that dense. If you are serious then I would lIke to know where you went to college...so I don't send my kids there. I want them to learn ethics, philosophy and critical thinking. So please consider the ethics of veganism vs BFing. An adult human woman consents to feed her baby a product from her body. A dairy cow does not consent, and therefore is forced to. In the same way we don't enslave newly delivered women and attach a breast pump to them for other people's babies. But if they volunteer to donate....then great. But again, human adults can consent. If you don't get that...I have no hope for you. I once again hope you are trolling. |
I would. The handful of people I know who went vegan, all had to quit after a few months to a year because their health went downhill. |
Which is not my problem; it is theirs for not knowing how to do it well. I was vegan because of my kid's allergies and being vegetarian and my son was vegan because of the same. ANd we both were absolutely healthy and ate a varied diet. It was ease and preference for a life with cheese that I did not stay vegan, and pretty much the same for the kid. |
OH MY GOD! Please just stop. I've been vegan for 9 years and vegetarian for almost 21. I am healthier than most people I know. I am fit and strong as are most vegans I know. |
Seriously. I am not all that supportive of raising a vegan infant but even I can comprehend the fact that human milk is perfectly suitable for the vegan diet as there's no cruelty (well, I guess that depends on the mom you ask haha) and the person is consenting to it. These people understand as well but are just trying to keep stirring the pot. |
Exactly otherwise cow, sheep and goat milk would be considered vegan. Back to the topic, OP, please don't do this to your baby. |
Breast milk is a bodily fluid. Not cows milk. It's "vegan" in the sense that ones own blood is probably okay right? |
Breastmilk is in keeping with OP's belief system.
That said, I would seriously consider fish for your child. |
Not everyone is vegetarian for ethical reasons, you know. |
