Child asked if Mormons are Christians

ALL churches should be like this. Why does it matter OP?

Your faulty record is broken.

Self-identifying as Christian does not make it so.

Claiming to do something, anything, in the name of Christ does not define one as Christian.

I'm trying not to be judgy. But you sound very, very unChristlike. I'm not suggesting you aren't a Christian...your spirituality is between you and your God. However, if you claim to follow Christ, you might want to spend a little more time learning about the way he chose to speak and act.

Roman Catholic, actually

You know that you're a heretic, right?

I am a nonreligious person with friends of many faiths, including Mormons. And my advice would be to steer very, very clear of all this kind of talk - who is and isn't in the club, etc. What is your church doing going on about who doesn't "count" as a Christian, anyway? That kind of exclusion is, by definition, un-Christian. I swear, I don't even believe in this stuff and I still have a better grasp of the inclusive and tolerant teachings of Christ than most self-proclaimed "Christians."

OP, all you can do now is explain to the Mormon parents that this is the teaching of your church and apologize that your DC took it out of church and offended them. Keep it short and sincere and leave it at that. And maybe also tell your DC that some things just shouldn't be talked about with people you don't know super well - religion being one of them.

That's ok. Some people are extremely judgmental without even trying. You know, very unChristlike.

As someone who was raised Muslim, I always believed (and still do) that Protestants, Catholics, Mormans, Jehovah Witness, are all Christians. They have their differences of course, but they are in a similar branch (though clearly those groups within dispute it).

It's not just Christians that do this - Muslims certainly do that - plenty of Sunnis don't consider Ismailis to be Muslims either.

Human beings just love to create divisions.

But yeah, as someone from a Muslim background, they're all versions of Christians to me.

PP, to put this into perspective, Mormonism is to Christianity what Druzism or Bahaism is to Islam.
