The woman should have resigned. She was out of line. Now, where are all those Dems who made worse comments about Palin's girls.

Sounds like Lauten was drinking and tweeting. Show some class lady. What an idiot.

When you become reality tv "stars" you become a public figure. Any comments on them goes with the territory.

Exactly. The Palin girls' situation is exactly the same as the Obama girls'. I'm surprised they don't hang out as friends.

This is far from the first time the president’s daughters have been singled out for ridicule on the right. In 2010, during the BP oil spill crisis, Glenn Beck mocked Malia for reportedly asking President Obama about the clean-up. ... In 2012, when the president cited Malia and Sasha as influential in his decision to embrace gay marriage, Bristol Palin, the daughter of ex-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, attacked them in a widely criticized blog post. ... That same year right wing firebrand Ann Coulter declared: “Maybe it’s time to start imitating liberals in another way and go after the Obama children.” ... Last year, in the wake of President Obama‘s statement that he would support the selling of Plan B, a birth control product, to girls as young as 15, Fox News host Andrea Tantaros speculated about the sex life of Malia, who was 14 years old at the time.

Wow. Some of these people should be ashamed of themselves.

Sorry, she was speculating about what Obama's attitude would be if it were HIS fifteen year old daughter.

Here's a quotation from the transcript. Seems pretty clear she was speculating on Malia Obama's sex life.
TANTAROS: I mean look, if the president is going to talk about his daughters, typically I would not talk about the daughters, unless, of course, they go to the Bahamas on spring break and we have to pay for it and I think it's wrong, which I do. But they're not grown women. So I'm just wondering, at 15 years old, is the Obama daughter, Malia, going to go on birth control? Are they gonna put her on birth control? Because he's very concerned with the contraceptives and pharmaceuticals that are going in the mouths of everybody else's 15-year old daughter.
Great reporting, FoxNews.

What is your point? She was not mocking, "chiding" or commenting on Malia. She was raising a hypothetical for the purposes of discussion.

Again, what is your point. Are you trying to suggest that AT should be canned or forced to resign? What are you suggesting.

Obama in 2008:

"Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old," he said. "I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn't make sense to not give them information."

Sounds like he opened the discussion.

This is the story which Tantaros was addressing.

from the abc link above:

“I will say this, as the father of two daughters. I think it is important for us to make sure that we apply some common sense to various rules when it comes to over-the-counter medicine,” Obama said at the press conference back then. “And as I understand it, the reason Kathleen made this decision was she could not be confident that a 10-year-old or an 11-year-old going to a drugstore should be able—alongside bubble gum or batteries—be able to buy a medication that potentially, if not used properly, could end up having an adverse effect.”

Sounds to me like he injected his daughters here, as well.

I am not understanding what is so wrong about what Tantaros said.
It can be said of any lawmaker or politician who supports providing Plan B to children. Would these lawmakers and politicians have their daughters on birth control at age 15? Would they want their daughters to have access to Plan B without parental permission?

What's my point?: Anyone who takes cheap shots at children who have done nothing to deserve it is being an asshole.

When Lauten did it, she was being an asshole. Same with Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. Tantaros was doing the same thing with her crap about Bahamas vacations and the future decisions of a 14-year-old girl. Those comments added nothing to her substantive commentary, and she was just using Malia Obama as a punching bag, so she was being an asshole too. Certainly there people of other political stripes who similarly act like assholes. Bill Maher is a perfect (Libertarian?) example. And when he takes cheap shots at children, he too should be (and has been) dubbed an asshole.

Yes, it's a double standard that politicians of all stripes will point to their own children and their experience as parents to support their political positions. That's a morally gray area, IMHO. But no matter what you think about politicians using their own children as props, it never justifies taking a cheap shot at someone else's child.

What I'm finding pretty frustrating and offensive here is that some people are trying to justify these cheap shots by Lauten, Beck, Limbaugh, and Tantaros. Just acknowledge they each had an "asshole moment" for chrissakes, chalk it up to wine or hot temper or a bad joke, and then move forward. You make it worse when you try to justify their despicable behavior.
