what was your favorite meal your mom made growing up?

Grilled cheese and tomato soup, plus Fritos. OMG the sodium... but YUM!

Yes, there's no denying this. Though I didn't really care about the Fritos. Just the Campbell's tomato, and the grilled cheese. If we'd been extra good, with two slices.

That plus hot chocolate after sledding or snowman building--oh, man.

Aw I still remember when my big sister (she was more of a mom #2 since she is 10 years older) used to make my siblings and I instant pudding in these individual silver dessert cups. Best day ever was 10 of those in the fridge. Also another favorite food growing up that she used to make us was instant oatmeal that came with a thick syrup that you could make designs with - she always put our initials.

Also, lake perch that we caught ourselves. Dad cleaned it, Mom pan-fried it.

I also remember, when Dad was making the hamburger patties, he'd sneak me a little raw meat, and he'd have some, and we'd have a little conspiratorial smile. It was really good.

Gross!

I still like it--but now you have to pay $20 to get it with chopped shallot and egg at a place like Mintwood.

Can't trust the ground stuff itself anymore with our industrial food chain.

It's funny because clearly my family is from the Midwest and continued to cook that food, but we lived near Asia and didn't really pick up any culinary dishes!

Yes! Porcupine meatballs. Also spaghetti with meat sauce and pizza from a box (crust mix, sauce in a can and really bad powdered Parmesan cheese)with a ton of ground meat.

Where is your family from?! I've never met anyone that knows what porcupines are! My Grandmother was from St. Louis

steak au poivre with home made fries and chocolate souffle for dessert. My whole family was/is obsessed with Julia Child.

Mochai Kara Kuzhambu (spicy sambhar with dried Lima beans). I wish I could eat some right now!

After college, I was working in Hong Kong - my mom came to visit me from Korea and actually had a tupperware full of these skewers, uncooked, in her suitcase. She came from the airport, walked into my apartment and went straight into the kitchen to cook these. Love my mom.

What a wonderful mom!

Duck l'orange with wild rice and a cheesecake. This was the birthday dinner my mom made for me every year. She was a wonderful cook. I miss her terribly.

I think that's gross too but there's a big difference between steak tartare and mushy pre-ground chuck.

This is sooo nasty, and my mom did cook real meals, but my favorite dinners were banquet pot pies and chef boyar dee pizza that came in a box. It had a pouch of flour, the tomato sauce and the cheese that was like a grated parmesan

My mom made the best lasagna, and my dad made the best London broil.

Oh, and for dessert, he was the KING of creampuffs. Mine still don't turn out as good as his.
