Mac and cheese:
Two boxes of Red&White (store brand) mac and cheese with the orange cheese packet. One can of cream of mushroom soup and one can of tuna. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Mom: pot roast and meatloaf

Dad: chicken fried steak

Mom made something called old fashioned macaroni, which was macaroni with a can of tomatoes, to which more cheddar cheese than ever necessary was added, and then baked in the oven. So good.

Also a French Canadian dish called ragout. It's a pork hock stew, with pork meatballs, that is then served over liberally buttered mashed potatoes.

With the mac and cheese?

I liked my mom's pan-fried hamburgers, taco salad (with Doritos!), and beef tips, either with mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or rice.

Silver hake pan fried and poured over with milk. Eaten with boiled potatoes.

Hungarian mom--cabbage/egg noodles/powdered sugar. And her homemade dumplings with goulash. We would then take rye bread and soak up the extra juice...omg so good.

Marinated flank steak or my grandmas Mac and cheese.

Crab salad: iceberg lettuce, fake crab meat, mayonnaise, red pepper (the powder, not the bell pepper itself). We ate it on Ritz crackers.

Mexican chicken: Old El Paso cheesy medical rice, chicken, a container of sour cream and a container of Lance cheese dip all mixed together and baked as a casserole.

Least favorite: "chicken divan." Chicken and frozen broccoli mixed up with tons of mayonnaise, topped with bread crumbs and baked. Warm mayonnaise.... Barf.

Cheesy MEXICAN rice ! Dammit autocorrect.

We also had taco rice which was basically taco salad except you put everything on white rice instead of in a taco shell. It's a weird hybrid dish they discovered in Okinawa which has been occupied with Americans for so long there's this whole subset of cuisine that's like Japanese versions of food Americans introduced to them.

Chicken biryani- she makes it with a variety of small grained, fragrant rice which we get in India. Absolutely mouthwateringly delicious!
Chicken in coconut gravy - another one. Mine doesn't come anywhere close

This is my favorite thing my dad made. We had a cheese sauce with it, which sounds gross but is really yummy! I still make it every now and then as a treat.
