Anyone who is motivated will most likely do well. In Montgomery County, I am seeing a lot of minorities and whites that lack motivation. This is mostly due to SES. As more immigrants come into the county, you will see scores plummet even more than they already have. Montgomery County has kissed it's good education reputation good-bye. |

Are you saying Blacks and Mexicans are unintelligent ?! Absolutely not. They just test low and have never invented anything." Really? For starters, do a google search on Charles Drew (blood plasma and storage techniques) and Garrett Morgan (elevator). I am a black man who occasionally browses this site. I am going to assume that this site attracts the outliers and not the average. But, it sure is disturbing to see the reaction when there is a perceived threat to standing and status. |
The reaction isn't to perceived threat and status due to color. The huge influx of Hispanic immigrants are poor and often illiterate in their own language. The vast amount of resources needed to support them, despite their illegal status, takes resources from poor American citizens. I don't think that's fair in the least. The comments about learn to speak Spanish, etcetera, prove the goal is to take and dominate, not integrate. I have been in No VA, where they harbor illegals. I have seen quality of services go down while my taxes continue to go up. Businesses that hire these illegals no longer provide good service, and don't care, since they are aware you simply can't get better. I am hiring companies from out of Fairfax County now, including West Virginia, to avoid this. |
Tell that to major school systems then. Across the nation, we've been told to close the achievement gap. Blacks and Hispanics score lower than their white and Asian counterparts. So if a school is majority minority, can it compete with a school that's mostly white, Asian or a combination? Add border kids to the mix, and you're putting more on teachers - mostly ESOL in these cases. So the low-performing schools will suffer, as that's where these kids will be placed. It's so easy to talk about racism and to blame folks for wanting the best for their kids. But teachers cannot be expected to perform miracles. And when you have students entering high school, for example, reading at a 6th grade level, they HAVE to be placed in remedial courses in an effort to level the playing field. But add attendance issues into the mix, and it's a lose-lose situation, as there's simply not enough time in the world to help kids MAKE UP for lost time. So these facts are a result of institutionalized racism, no doubt. However, b/c there is no quick fix, people flee if they have the means. And that translates into whites, blacks, Hispanics and Asians who either move to the "better" schools or opt into private. We all want the best for our kids; that's the bottom line. And while each individual, struggling kid may be delightful, the sad fact is this - The systems look at the aggregate data. |
lol you know people are just messing with you, right? People feel this way about every large wave of immigrants. The Irish were reviled. Same with the Italians. Everyone blends in just fine 50 years on. Just chill. Nobody's trying to dominate. |

You should read some of the studies about 3rd generation Hispanic immigrants. They're not really integrating that well, and it will probably get much worse unless we do something about the illegal immigration problem. Unless you want to live in a country like Mexico or Honduras? In that case carry on. |
| The liberal whites run away from brown people. They are the most racist. Southern whites integrate. The living amongst each other leads to tensions and conservative voting by whites but at least they live together and aren't terrified and appalled . |
| ^^^ and educate together too. |

Lol, right. Keep running scared. Every second generation Latino I know is kicking ass in the US. Look at Tom Perez. |
Eh, that's just the Labor Department. Come back when a second-generation Latino is secretary of a department that actually matters. (I'm joking.) |
| You'll find white people aren't really white. Get a box of Chiclets and compare. |
I think there are a ton of 2nd generation Hispanic immigrants in this area that aren't even close to "kicking ass". It's not me running scared, it's people actually looking at the performance of Hispanic immigrants. Your anecdotes don't really carry much weight. |
