" Are you saying Blacks and Mexicans are unintelligent ?! Absolutely not. They just test low and have never invented anything." Really? For starters, do a google search on Charles Drew (blood plasma and storage techniques) and Garrett Morgan (elevator). I am a black man who occasionally browses this site. I am going to assume that this site attracts the outliers and not the average. But, it sure is disturbing to see the reaction when there is a perceived threat to standing and status.
Tell that to major school systems then. Across the nation, we've been told to close the achievement gap. Blacks and Hispanics score lower than their white and Asian counterparts. So if a school is majority minority, can it compete with a school that's mostly white, Asian or a combination? Add border kids to the mix, and you're putting more on teachers - mostly ESOL in these cases. So the low-performing schools will suffer, as that's where these kids will be placed. It's so easy to talk about racism and to blame folks for wanting the best for their kids. But teachers cannot be expected to perform miracles. And when you have students entering high school, for example, reading at a 6th grade level, they HAVE to be placed in remedial courses in an effort to level the playing field. But add attendance issues into the mix, and it's a lose-lose situation, as there's simply not enough time in the world to help kids MAKE UP for lost time. So these facts are a result of institutionalized racism, no doubt. However, b/c there is no quick fix, people flee if they have the means. And that translates into whites, blacks, Hispanics and Asians who either move to the "better" schools or opt into private. We all want the best for our kids; that's the bottom line. And while each individual, struggling kid may be delightful, the sad fact is this - The systems look at the aggregate data.
