My child graduated from TJ and he/she is now..................

I know of three TJ alums

1. Very recent alum, attends VTech, currently works as a counselor at a STEM camp
2. Pursuing his PhD at MIT. A very, very anti-social person, very peculiar tastes in pretty much everything.
3. A cutthroat resident at GW. This one will step over dead bodies to achieve her goals.

If you know anything about the people who work at DHS, you'll know she THINKS she's doing wonderfully in life, but in reality is looked down upon by people who realize that DHS is not very picky about who they hire.

MIT is selective about who they admit.

+1, also the previous list has an impressive number of MIT admits

And I know an amazing surgeon who is kind and smart and a TJ grad. As well as a very competent and decent small business owner in a tech field poised to make it big. TJ doesn't breed herd mentality adopters. So all of you in the herd seeking bad info about TJ grads, so be it. May you spend the rest of your lives in your cramped, bitter worlds while the rest of the world, TJ grads and others, passes you by.

I worked with another in a volunteer program at a local school a few years later. He was burnt out and chose not to go to college, so his mom had signed him up for a bunch of volunteering to keep him busy.

Do we know the stats on that issue? I know one who was burnt after just one year at GMU. TJ finished his academic career.

Actually, the Asian Quota of the top colleges is being reflected.

TJ has changed. There are more Asians. Although in the last 6 to 7 years, academic standards increased e.g. average SAT scores increased, average weighted GPA increased, number of AP courses per student increased, number of Intel semifinalists increased and number of school clubs and volunteer clubs increased as well. It's odd that academic standards went up, club and volunteer activities went up yet the top college admissions went down.

Not really. College admissions are getting more competitive for everyone....TJ is an excellent student with a high concentration of extremely bright students. But it is just one school out of thousands.

Actually, talking to people there, I think TJ is a horrible school with excellent students. The great thing about TJ is the kids will learn the material on their own and from their classmates.

Actually, TJ is not a horrible school. The administrators are competent, most of the teachers are great, the renovated facility will be great as well including 13 advanced research labs equipped with cutting edge equipments. It has 170+ clubs/activities (more than other high schools in the area), built in 8th period for EC, students have more freedom/privileges to have lunch anywhere/anytime, no hall passes, no bells etc. No bullying, drug, violence issues and late start time etc.

And the 20 million for the research labs/equipments raised privately with donations.

I didn't attend TJ but attended a similar school out of state. I work in finance. Most of my friends are lawyers, doctors, engineers or work in business.

The best facilities/equipments of the school will finally match the best students in the country to form the best high school in the world.
