Langley 25?

And yet, the arrogance of the Langley supporters is apparent. And they can't see it.

All schools have strengths and weaknesses. With Langley, the weakness is in the leadership. That's my opinion. You have to be strong leader, not someone's best friend, to deal with some of the issues that come up at Langley, due to parent involvement and child entitlement. Instead they tend to cow tow, then insult behind the parents' backs. In contrast, the principal at Cooper is much stronger. The parents do complain about her, but that's because she doesn't give in to them when the demands are unreasonable. I respect her for that.

I'm sorry you so clearly can't get past your hatred of all things Langley. But really, it just says more about you than it does about the school and all the positives going for it. You seem to be the one who "can't see" how utterly arrogant you are.

Consider the possibility that many Langley students and/or parents have displayed spoiled, entitled attitudes often enough that it has acquired a reputation for being an elitist bubble.

Examples please?

Saxon Scope, page 16, April 2014

"Yet, the primary issue with many NOVA parents is that they're reproductive narcissists. They create copies of themselves in their children to vicariously relieve their glory days. Those very parents that drown themselves in their own success eventually end up rubbing their feelings of superiority onto their children, who unfortunately, crowd the halls of Langley, leaving us to endure their arrogance and silently wonder if we are the same."

Per Jay Matthews, the goal is to recognize schools that encourage their students to take challenging courses that are equivalent to, or will at least prepare them for, college-level classes.

Some argued that such rankings encouraged schools to enroll students in courses for which they weren't ready, in order to boost their rankings. In response, he added the E&E% index, which reflects the percentage of graduating seniors at a school who have passed at least one college-level (AP or IB) exam while in high school.

I think he has a point- to a point. However, like many things- too much of a good thing- is too much. It has diminishing value of return. Perhaps if he said anything above x is negligible or other parameters need to be considered once a school reaches a benchmark of x. I know McLean and Langley have made concerted efforts to reduce the number of AP tests some of their students take. They are encouraging prudent choice over quantity.

Not true. Same Message, Different Year. Nothing will change at Langley with the type of culture it is.

Langley Guidance Counselors are strongly emphasizing the benefits of taking this new course. As it’s an AP, students receive a whole point boost to their GPA. Along with this, students enrolled in AP Physics aren’t required to do the Science Fair, however Honors students are. - See more at: http://www.saxonscope.com/news-2/2014/03/05/ap-physics-1-provides-new-option-for-rising-juniors/#sthash.CbRhEovM.dpuf

This is a new option for all Juniors in Fairfax County- it isn't unique to Langley. The College Board is changing its Physics APs - that is nationwide and the County is changing as a result - not unique to Langley. Historically, Honors classes have required particpation in an individual/group project- one option- is to participate in the science fair- county wide. Historically AP classes have NOT had this requirement - county wide. These are Countywide policies NOT unique to Langley. Since next year will be the first year for the new Physics option- we will see what happens- perhaps they will make the Junior year physics course one that requires an individual/group project- perhaps not. Time will tell.

It isn't all about Langley.

Add to that, an administration who feeds that attitude. And that makes for an unhappy place to attend school.

Don't forget the moms in the Langley PTA. Oy vey! What attitude!

They actually held a meeting once, and left one chair out and told my friend she could no longer be a member. It was like Survivor - she was thrown off the island! CRAZY!

They are crazy. Power hungry, twisted, ego-drive women. Not at all helpful. It's all about THEM THEM THEM. I ran away.

Sorry, but hasn't this thread more than run its course? Although the last post did make me think of Flock of Seagulls, so thanks for that.

Why is it that one poster bullies every imaginable thread to a Langley-bashing affair? It's so tiresome. Bully for you. Goodbye.

Or rather, "Bullis for you". See what I did there? Yes, Bully Mom needs to go.

So there are numerous lines in this thread specifically applied to me, and then I'm the bully. LOLOL. I simply have a different opinion of some of you, and that's not OK? Again. LOL.

It seems to me, that you have to have the last word. You can't just let a thread sit and die, unless your post is last.

^^I'm not BM (Bullis/bully mom) but I have to add: it's not just that she insists on having the last word (she does) but that every single thread that directly, indirectly, tangentially relates to Langley or any high school issue becomes her personal battlefield where she trots out her same 5 stories of how Langley was too stressful for her (er, her DD). And then goes on and on and on and on as if saying over and over makes it sound like others agree. Any point raised by any other poster is shot down immediately with her tired little retorts such that no one else wants to bother discussing the relevant issue anymore. So the thread dies (and maybe she thinks she's won). Bully for you.

not sure why everyone thinks there is only 1 person unhappy at Langley. There are many. And most of the type A parents are still oblivious even after 2 suicides and multiple channels of dissemination of info that children are stressed and have difficulties at fcps high schools and ESPECIALLY Langley.

It is just a shame what goes on and on and on. same problems, same stress and same denials.

same crowd of over achievers and athletes that bond together and reinforce how nice Langley is.
