Langley 25?

These WaPo rankings include most of the public and private schools in the DC area, although TJ isn't included. Yorktown and W-L usually do better than the FCPS schools on the Washington Post Challenge Index, whereas FCPS schools typically are ranked higher than APS schools by US News and Great Schools.

If you broke it down just for FCPS, it would be (1) Oakton, (2) Centreville, (3) McLean, (4) Woodson, (5) Robinson, (6) Langley, (7) Madison, (8) Fairfax, (9) Herndon, (10) West Potomac, (11) Lake Braddock, (12) West Springfield, (13) Westfield, (14) Chantilly, (15) South Lakes, (16) Marshall, (17) South County, (18) Hayfield, (19) Stuart, (20) Edison, (21) Lee, (22) Falls Church, (23) Annandale and (24) Mount Vernon.

OMG. I almost spit out my coffee.

Suck it, annoying posters who are all about lists/rankings. Sorry your kid's HS is ranked so low.

I assume this was another thread to poke at Langley, but it's highly rated. I don't get the impression Langley parents want their kids pushed to take more AP exams, which would boost the Challenge Index rating. It's just fine as is.

Keep in mind it is based on AP tests taken, not passed. Take a look at the E&E% which at least measures if students passed one test. That's more meaningful in my view

Langley's SAT scores are still higher.

The rankings in FCPS by the E&E% more closely track the usual SAT rankings than the CI rankings: (1) Langley, (2) McLean, (3) Woodson, (4) Oakton, (5) Madison, (6) Marshall/Robinson, (8) South Lakes, (9) West Springfield, (10) Fairfax/Herndon, (12) Westfield, (13) Lake Braddock, (14) Centreville, (15) Chantilly, (16) Lee, (17) South County, (18) West Potomac/Stuart/Edison, (21) Hayfield, (22) Annandale, (23) Falls Church, (24) Mount Vernon.

Why does everyone love to hate on Langley? It's an excellent school.

Consider the possibility that many Langley students and/or parents have displayed spoiled, entitled attitudes often enough that it has acquired a reputation for being an elitist bubble.

take these ratings with a pinch of salt

As long as you understand what they do and do not purport to measure, they are informative. Simply saying they are "crap" is lazy and/or defensive.
