White Flint: Night of the Living Dead Mall?

And, I hate the outside concept feel in the middle of the summer or winter dragging kids, strollers, diaper bag and the shopping bag as I refuse to give the county more money. I'd rather drive further and have a mall where it is indoors and easy access.

You're going to have to drive increasingly further. Enclosed shopping malls are on their way out.

When you get a babysitter for the evening like the rest of us, you'll enjoy strolling around and eating outdoors at sidewalk cafés again, if you ever did.

I'd rather spend the time with my kids than leaving them with strangers. I'd rather eat inside without bugs, cars driving by and being on a crammed sidewalk with people walking within inches of me. I hate going to bethesda. Parking is hell and there are very few stores I'd need on a regular basis.

Nobody wants to go there; it's too crowded.

I think the reason the mall hasn't been totally demolished yet is because the County is still approving all of the permits and zoning.

Yup. There's also a lawsuit going on with Lord & Taylor, whose lease runs until 2055 and they are pretty pissed about the rest of the place coming down around them.

Their lease goes to 2055? What did they do, sign a 99-year lease like Lucy and Ricky?

No, an 80-year lease.

Actually, they are. Look at the census stats on Bethesda and it's very heavily families. I walk around Bethesda with DD most weekday afternoons and it's indeed fairly annoying when it's a cold spell like we've been having. Much easier to park in a mall garage then make the dash to inside the mall and not worry about DD getting too cold, as I do when we walk around Bethesda.

I agree about the families. I've got 4 kids and live in AU Park over the line in DC. I've also lived in DC 35 years. We participate on Bethesda swim teams, etc. But have you ever gone to Bethesda at night? It's all people over 35 out for date night away from the kids. And if you bring you kids with you in some places, that's fine too. But they make the big bugs from affluent groups of older people spending money on drinks and expensive dinners. Not parents out doing power walks with their strollers.

Ha, that's big bucks, not big bugs…

You 2^^ are why places like Rockville continue to be doomed to banal eternity. Nobody wants to go there? But yet it's too crowded? With people who want to go there…The loss of the huge parking lot next to the Honda dealership does suck. But some of us ride our bikes with the kids up the Crescent Trail up from the south, park and lock our bikes eat some 5 Guys and gobble some Shave Ice from John's stand and then duck into Barnes and Noble for books to fill our back packs and ride back home or to our cars parked at the Bethesda Pool. For people who don't want to eat on sidewalks or walk and actually get some exercise in what ever weather, yeah, not for you. If you have babies in strollers I can understand not being into it but if the kids can walk, what's your problem?
