| Once the train went, (plus the guy with the massage chairs), the mall went. It's a mall without pity now. I hear they're going use it as the set for Sean of the Dead II before they turn it into the Stepford Town Center. |
In Soviet Russia, mall shops you. |
| The white flint metro is half to 1 mile away from the mall (depending on where you are going). Not bad by surburban public transit standards, but how many people are going to do that? With all the shopping and restaurants close to one of the nearby metro stations, the new mall will need to be pretty special to bother. |
This is false. There has been much about the renewal of White Flint in the news - this and Pike and Rose are being patterned on the new urbanist design aesthetic. Not another strip mall - in fact, trying to be the anti-strip mall and get away from the car culture that defines Rockville Pike and VA. |
Ummm, I think that's exactly what's happening at Pike and Rose - and Whole Foods is right across the street from White Flint Mall and there will be little side streets. Or, are you trying to be funny? |
Unless they are independent bookstores - then, there's been a resurgence. http://features.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2013/09/20/independent-bookstores-amazon/ And I Would LOOOOOOVE to have an indie bookstore in the area. My bank account might not. P&P is too far away for me. |
| Sad. I used to love hanging out at White Flint when I was little. Hope whatever replaces it has some appeal. |
Oh no, not another ubiquitous Banana Republic store! |
I had forgotten that. The glass-sided elevator and the Eatery were a big deal. PP, now I feel old too! |
You act like there aren't thousands of people who live right around there. Not everyone will be coming in on the Metro. Rockville is a car culture. It will do just fine. |
The biggest bitch will be probably having to pay to park at the new White Flint. I avoid places where I have to pay to park! |
NO we have family in Russia. Their shopping is much better. |
I refuse to pay to park too in areas like that. And, I hate the outside concept feel in the middle of the summer or winter dragging kids, strollers, diaper bag and the shopping bag as I refuse to give the county more money. I'd rather drive further and have a mall where it is indoors and easy access. |
So, basically you are asking for another downtown rockville or bethesda, neither of which I am willing to go to as parking is a hassle, its cold in the winter to walk around and too hot in the summer and a huge hassle with a double stroller, diaper bag and the required shopping bags (not including a purse). |
| Wow! I used to go to White Flint in the '80s because it was on the Metro and I didn't drive. I've long since moved to Va. and had no idea it was deserted....that and Tysons were by far the busiest malls back then. |
