Why is it okay and not considered racist to call someone "white trash"?

It presupposes that regular trash is the black kind.

How so? What's the basis for this supposition?

Because no one ever says black trash.

So is it also racist against Asians then?

I haven't heard blacks referred to as trash before either.

It is racist.

It's offensive to whites as well as blacks.

What about Hispanics?

Oh, please. Unfortunately, the American language has no shortage of offensive terms that are specifically used to refer to blacks but "trash" simply isn't one of them. Let's not stretch the truth just to make an argument.

What is offensive is the media's invention of the term "white Hispanic" following the George Zimmeran/Travon Martin situation.

Wouldn't you find it absurd or possibly racist to refer to President Obama as a "white African American" ?? (and yet we are all aware the our President is just as much white as he is African-American).

Invention or popularization of the term "white Hispanic" served only to expose the media's blatant progressive bias. Pathetic.

White is a race. Hispanic is an ethnicity. Those are two different things.

Media didn't invent that. It's a standard social science term used by the US census, eg, Juan Williams is a black Hispanic. Marc Anthony is a white Hispanic.

It doesn't feel right to everyone, thus apparently a good many Hispanics select "Other" for race in the census (it might help if we had mestizo as a racial category) but it wasn't invented by the media.

All very interesting, but doesn't really address the question of whether or not "white trash" is racist toward Hispanics.

And what is "AA"? Please do tell.

I am from the south, and my mom grew up in the 40's. She said when groups of black and white kids saw each other, the white kids would insult the black kids by using the "N" word, and the black kids would respond by calling the white kids "poor white trash". Yes, it is racist.
