| Reviving this- how are the sciences at UNC? Physics? |
Regular Intro physics (not Physics for Poets or whatever) was not calculus-based last I checked, so that might not bode well for the department. |
That may be because UNC reserves only 1O.6 percent of the seats for OOS. UVA is more than double that for OOS |
| How much of a boost do OOS legacies get? |
| Any student would be lucky to attend the southern side of Heaven. |
|
It's a good school but
OOS large public would be at the bottom of my list. In-state acceptance rate is close to 50% |
| Another school, not yet mentioned, with a big international reputation is Purdue! |
There might literally be an overlap of zero kids applying to both UNC and Purdue. Totally different institutions and locales. |
| Competitive for out of state. In state not so much. Over rated campus. All of my kids were accepted there and decided to attend other schools. All took the tour and all came away saying don’t get they hype. |
| Beauty in the eye of the beholder. The fact that the campus is pretty compact and close to Franklin Street is a huge plus. And add in Chapel Hill generally and you have an unbeatable combo. |
| Chapel Hill is a great town, LOVE it. Proximity to other schools in the area, super fun. That said, it's very weird as an OOS as the In state may have significantly lower qualifications. It's an odd dynamic. |
| 82% of the students at UNC are admitted at an over 52% acceptance rate. Hard pass for me. |
Because the higher the rejection rate, the better the school? Sigh .... |
|
I'm a UNC graduate and my degree/alma mater seems to be highly regarded based on the reaction I get from my peers in highly accomplished DC circles. I am from NC, the out of state part is not important, except that it's harder to get in out of state.

You're twisted. |
