I've noticed single women in their 40s who have not been married and don't have kids..

Were they really mistaken or just trying to make a 40 year old feel good for a second.

I am 47 and was carded yesterday when I bought a bottle of wine. I had my 9 yo with me.

Sadly, I think she was just a rule follower! lol

I'm 43 and routinely get carded. Pretty positive they are just doing their job. I was always young looking fort age--but 22 years over the age requirement...I am fairly certain no matter how good I look there can be no confusion I'm over 21

Anonymous wrote:Totally disagree. I'm 40 with two kids, one in middle school. I'm regularly complimented--often hit on. It's a combo of feeling sexy in my own skin, enough $ to afford flattering clothes and haircuts and skin creams, a killer workout regimen, and hot sex (with my husband!). My closest GFs look amazing. I would say the reasons are the same for them (w/ the exception of the hot sex). We each have 1-2 friends/acquaintances who are the sand age but single and all either look as good as us or worse but not one looks better.

omg

How DO you have friends?

You're nothing but a dish of conceit with sprinkling of shallowness on top.

likes do indeed attract likes

I prefer my friends to be flawed. It's just too hard having to pretend to be perfect.

Who said we're not flawed???!!! So sorry you're not having hot sex!

Research on women who have lived beyond 80 surprisingly found that they had children in their late 30s, early 40s. Having children forces you to live a healthy lifestyle.
My grandmother was 42 when she had her last kid an she lived to be 95

The two most important factors in affecting appearance as you age are genetics and lifestyle choices.

They inter-relate your entire life, but it starts to show more as you age.

Stress and responsbiity ages you on the inside, but how that affects the outside is probably more related to the above two than anything else.

For example, the woman with the killer workout regimen probably does not have time to drink heavily between the workouts and the hot husband sex, oh, and with feeling so great about how great she looks and being able to afford expensive face creams and flattering clothes (cringe) she probably just doesnt have a lot of negative thoughts, or possibly any thoughts of any depth whatsoever- but thats just conjecture.

Her mom probably aged well too.

At 46 with a very stressful life, a depressed husband and wonderful young child I get taken for about 10 years younger IF I have had enough rest and IF I am feeling like life is pretty ok despite the stress.

But if I am tired and everthing sucks, I swear I look awful. And I very well might. Or maybe its my negative thoughts...

Women in their 40s without kids definitely look and feel younger. That is where they get the idea that kids at 44 will be a breeze.

I'm TTC, just turned 34, and people always think I'm younger. Oh well, guess it's all downhill from here.

A single friend of mine who is 45 has given up on trying to meet men her age because of this. She is now involved with a man who is 70.

One word: genetics.

And lifestyle. Maybe PP takes care of herself and H has let himself go.

Define taking care of yourself.

This thread is so ugly and jammed packed with misogynist stereotypes on all sides. Really gross.

I'm 38 with two kids and kids have really aged me. Up until my first was born at 35 I was always, always carded when purchasing alcohol. That's not to say I looked 20 but young enough to card. I have rarely been carded since having kids. But you know what, I have zero regrets. My kids are totally worth all the extra wrinkles and pounds.

Women who smoke age early. I know a one who started at 13. For some reason she stopped growing taller as well.
10 years later she had the skin of a much older woman

I own a bar and our policy is to card literally everyone. The reason is that I don't want my bartenders and servers guessing peoples' ages (and God forbid, overestimating someone's age), but I also don't want people to be offended. I had a customer several years ago accuse us of racism because we carded her (she looked very young - like barely out of high school) and not her much older looking friends. Turns out the woman was in her 30s. But it was a reminder that selectively carding could be perceived as based on race or appearance. I don't want anyone to feel that way.

So whether the customer looks 20 or 60, we card all of our patrons before serving them alcohol.
