| hi,my daughter will be taking SCAT next year, have heard of online tutoring portals for test preparations, can anyone recommend any good portal for the same. |
+1 |
| My son took the SCAT recently and we just did the practice tests on the JHU CTY site. He easily passed the math part (not the verbal) but he is just naturally good at math. |
Please don't prep your daughter. Getting into CTY is not some notch for her belt; it is a program to meet the special needs of kids who need its help to meet their social and academic needs. If your child is a good match for the program, she will qualify without prepping. In other words, it is not meant to be a competitive test or program for which kids should prepare or cram. It is meant to assess their natural ability. |
| Prep if you want, do not prep if you don't want to. The only thing that matters is what fits your personality, practice and comfort zone. Do not listen to those who demand you to be like them ... or not. Just do your own thing. |
Sounds like the owner and founder of CTY with all the patent rights and intellectual property. Or a mere fool. |
| We signed up our daughter with www.top-grader.com for SCAT tutoring. Been going well so far ... she is in 7th grade and will be taking the test this Fall. |
I thought the SCAT was for younger children and that 7th graders take the SAT. |
| CTY accepts the ACT and SAT scores for 7th and 8th grade, so you should be working on those and forget abou the SCAT. The SCAT is for kids. |
|
People prep for CTY?
The only thing it offers is a chance at ridiculously overpriced camps. |
Colleges view those favorably though. Much more than Disney and .. um... downtime. |
Colleges don't really care what you do with your summers before 9th grade. |
TJ might, as well as selective private high schools. Admittance to which, in turn, will enhance your chance of admission to the better colleges. |
| No, colleges do not view CTY any more favorably than any other program that parents pay a lot of money for. If you want to do it for your child to have a fun experience, by all means, do it, but don't do it because you think it will be a good item on a college, or TJ, application. |
better than Disney and laying around .. um.. I mean downtime. And it's not CTY you put on the app. or essay. It's the class itself, i.e., epidemiology, Shakespeare, Model U.N. etc. and what you learned therefrom. |
