Seriously? "New Founders" at Creative Minds?

I have no dog in this fight, but I had to point out how crazy you all sound. It must be because you are parents of a 3 y.o.

It takes all of 20 min max to read and write on this thread, maybe another hour tops to stress about whether to report and finally send the link to PCSB. are you really saying it only takes 2 hours of investment and our neighborhood schools will change? Awesome!! Why didn't you say it was that easy?

Oh, right, it's not that easy. And parents who played the lottery the right way have every right to spend 2 hrs discussing and acting on a possible violation of the rules that affects everyone on CMs Waitlist. No one should feel petty or misguided in spending these few minutes on this, but thanks for trying to make people feel bad anyway.

There is a difference between "board members" (who can be added at any time) and "founding board member" which can only be named at original founding of school. Only founding board members can get their kids in without a lottery. Regular board members cannot, their kids must always go through the lottery, although obviously some schools fudge this.

Clearly the CM is fudging this. PP here, that guy had no affiliation until his neighbor got him in.

His neighbor got him in? Seriously? Are you privy to the whole story, PP?

You've done all but name names.

When you are on a board of a Charter School - you have an obligation to do what is right given for all DC children.

I am surprised that the other board memebers allowed this to occur.

Shame on all of you for allowing this to occur. This isn't using a relationship to get into a private school. This is DC tax dollars.

Well I just made up the fact that the ENTIRE PS3 class is made up for new founding board member kids. But I'm not going to do anything about it because deep down I know it's not true, so why report it?

If you really know something, report it to the PCSB, otherwise, shut up and let this thread die.

Shame on you for believing this is true without any proof. OH wait, someone on DCUM said it so it must be true.

No private.

That already seemed shady, but then when a couple people on DCUM said they found out when they called CM to find out when the lottery would be.

Then after the fact weren't people told the lottery was private because no one expressed an interest in attending?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Will PCSB look into it? Wonder what they'll find and if so, who will hear about it (other than CM staff)?

Sorry to get off topic, but how do people like CM? My specific concern is the young age and relatively little experience o the teachers... Thoughts?

There are lots of thoughts expressed in lots of "How do you like CM?" Threads. The search function is your friend, please use it.

Anyone know the deal with their wait list? Why theirs is the only one not moving?

My only caution is this. I am part of the founding group of another charter - listed in the app. No kids currently, and while I want to remain optimistic about my struggle with infertility, it might not happen for me. Still, I can imagine a scenario where years down the line, we have a new school leader who doesn't know me, doesn't know how hard I worked to build the school, etc. and somehow they don't reserve a space for my kids - and then I have to remind them post-lottery when I am given a WL number instead of an acceptance letter. Remember that some founders of schools are not parents, but God wiling, they will be parents in the future - and screw-ups can happen, particularly for a new school like CM. I wish we could reserve judgment until we have all of the facts. Hopefully the PCSB will investigate and take action if necessary.
