Why do people HATE Chicos so much?

Yayyy, someone revived the Chico's thread! Always entertaining.

While we're at it, let's also Coldwater Creek and their selection of capris for middle-aged women.

I shop at Chicos. I am nearly 50 a size 8 with a balanced body type. Chicos does have some things I wouldn't be caught dead in, but I choose very, very wisely. No one knows that I shop there! I don't typically advertise it either. LOL.

I pick the youngish looking clothes and what I'm wearing looks no different from what the 30-somethings wear. My advice is get basic stuff there, pants, basic shirts and leave the crazy a** prints and jackets that look like upholstery and insane print pants ALONE.

At middle age, since you're in the "middle" you have to juggle the old lady stuff and the trendy stuff. That's what I do. A little bit of Forever 21 here a little Talbots there some Coldwater Creek some Gap... If you're overweight, you should get slimmer. Heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer is dropping women like flies. Overweight is not good.

As for sensible shoes, there are all manner of super cute flats that are in style. I live in flats even though I'm short. They look best with straight leg pants, which all women can wear.

Ditto. Ditto. Ditto. And I would add that I find J. Crew cheaply made and overpriced.

You are all depressing me. I am a 63 years old professional woman who worked very hard over the past year to go from a stress-induced size 2x to size 12 (dumped 70 lbs) and am now a perfect Chico's size 2. I work like 100 hours a week and have no time to shop anywhere, but I have to dress professionally. I don't make a 6 figure salary so I am thrilled that I can order stuff online for reasonable prices and it always fits, is well made and I feel good in it. Stop making fun of old ladies, We are all your mothers and you will be one of us one day. "Forever 21" is a myth made up by 21 year old people. Get over yourselves. Someday your kids will laugh at you for shopping at the Gap. So there!

Good to know that a size 12 = Chico's size 2. Not surprised there.

Chico's doesn't do traditional sizing. They have a "1", "2", "3" that is more like a "small", "medium", "large" instead of a 0-16 like other stores.

Congratulations on your weight loss! There's more than a little judgement on this board-- ignore it.

Older, fatter woman here: Chicos is a very large store that markets to different demographics. Compare the Rockville store to the Potomac store. The Potomac store has some nice things. The Rockville store -- yikes!

J. Crew Factory chinos are my favorite. They wear like iron and look fantastic.

How many 35+ women really have that shape?

I don't, but the "just hanging there" style makes me look even worse.
Have to confess that I've actually never been to Chico's but I just got the feeling long time ago by looking at the display windows-long cardigans, long shirts, all for cover-ups.

Isn't Eileen Fisher the upscale choice for the chicos demographic?

Not sure about that. Eileen Fisher seems a lot more muted, lots of neutral colors.

I don't hate chicos. But I am terrified of getting old.

To me it's like the metro. First stop, j Jill. Next stop, cold water creek. Last stop, chicos.

I can't step foot in j Jill for that reason. It's a mental terror.
