Why do people HATE Chicos so much?

Anonymous
I’m an actual old lady and am tall, thin and fairly wealthy. I don’t like Chico’s at all. In the same price range, I think Talbot’s is much nicer and more to my taste. Other places I shop are J. McLaughlin (though not too much since their merchandise all tends to look alike). Also, Halsbrook, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus and Gilt and Rue La La.

I bought my first chicos leggings at age 20 after seeing them on a CMU theatre student.

You don’t have to buy your whole wardrobe in one place. The prints are not my style but have some great basics.

Chicos is fine. Like others have pointed out, you don't have to buy your whole wardrobe there.

Don't forget rich.

You are anonymous scum. The reasons for hating Chicos is lack of variety and sizing and being drastically overpriced.

None of those are reasons to hate Chicos.

The fact that the clothes are horrifically ugly and marketed at retirement age women who want something that's "neat!" and "different!" all while covering a fat stomach? That is the reason to hate Chicos.

? That's why I buy at Chicos, I want something fun to cover my fat stomach! Duh. I don't buy everything there.

I haven’t purchased or been into Chicos in 10 years. Ironically, we need to think again as Chico’s was acquired by the same parent as Talbots & Ann Taylor.

I don’t do the matchy retirement Garanimals look. Sizing is vanity (and I’m overweight).

I have a couple shirts from there but generally it’s just not my aesthetic.

The sizing for Chicos is too large for me. I'm effectively sized out. FWIW I wear a US 0/EU 34.

Since being bought out, the quality has disappeared. I used to shop at Chicos all the time. Have not even been in the store for a year. Clothes are cheaply made and expensive. I buy Eileen Fisher now.

It’s for older, larger size women with money who want flashy.

Where do the older, larger women with money who DON'T want to be flashy shop? Inquiring minds want options. [/quote

Eileen Fisher

I used to shop there, but since they were bought out by private equity the quality has gone down, but prices went up.

They hate all stores associated with aging.

Good solution, if you can afford it. Most of us cannot.

Hit the outlets and the better department stores for sales. Doing that, I get designer for no more than I would pay at Ann Taylor on sale. I've gotten Prada sandals or $60, Vince sweaters or under $100 (the fabric is incredible and they last forever), and lots of Ralph Lauren cheap as hell.

The best thing you can do is watch what you eat, and I don't mean starve yourself. I eat anything I want BUT only usually eat 1/2. I stop when I am satisfied, not full. I sometimes carry around 5 extra pounds, and that's when I'm hitting the sugar hard. If you keep your body in good shape, you'll find you can wear anything you want from wherever you want. I'm 51, and the only thing I watch re: what I wear is to avoid obviously teenage clothing. Having said that, Abercrombie jeans are some of the best fitting around and Express makes some killer jean leggings. And buy good lingerie - nothing makes a girl feel prettier than good undergarments.

Take care of your face as well, and don't be afraid to save to get some work done down the line, if you want to go that route. We only go around once and I'll be damned if I let people tell me how to dress and that I can't lift anything I want, when I want.

I like your energy. Well done, PP.
