Lets see what you look like at 60.

Yes-- that was both mean-spirited and disingenuous. This is a very normal representation of the way women look around 60. There's no way DP's behavior is his wife's fault, and there's no good reason DP, who certainly looks his age himself, should have believed he was entitled to cheat with a woman over 20 years his junior, and who is just 9 years older than his own daughter.

The Broadwell lady herself seems to be a bit of a loon, what with the husband and the hacking and the threats and all-- not to mention the "I already knew him from Academia", which no one actually says. But every woman who gets involved with a man older than her own generation is really an accessory to a misogynistic act against women in the man's own generation (which mean-spirited PP is apparently applauding).

Highlighted text^^exactly PP. This is the very dangerous subtext of this kind of act. Women need to be very clear that this is what they are doing when they engage in this kind of relationship. They kid themselves that they are exerting some kind of "power". But they are diminishing all women by doing such things. Broadwell got caught in her subject's awesome narrative--Petraeus is a GOD among mortals as a military strategist; it is intoxicating to be around any guy with that much power. She lost her shit completely as this CIA woman threatened her access to the general. She threw all reason out the window and resolved to take everyone, him included down in flames. What a nightmare. What a tragedy for the families effected. I hope that they can all come back from this.

I think the bolded text is a selfish and sweeping statement. The fact that you may or may not be in love with someone means nothing, because you are wronging an entire generation of women older than you by taking away one of their eligible men..." Whatever.

The statements above are really just first wave, woman-on-woman bashing. Really we should all know better than to criticize or call each other out for personal life choices.

I don't think the age difference should matter, but having an affair with a married person (in this case each is married and has children) should not be a personal life choice. Yes, people should be criticized for selfishly putting their own desires, needs--whatever you want to call it--without consideration of the affect on their families.

sorry--should be "effect"

But he will probably receive a lot of support from people if he is a decent guy. I would think that Patraeus's wife either knew about this or other indiscretions and doesn't give a crap. She probably figures that she has a good career of her own and with two children, albeit already grown up, why rock the boat?

+1.

And this one is 37. Really, this man is a very big pig. It absolutely steams me that men are under no pressure to recognize their own expiration dates in world in which 60 year-olds can help themselves to women under 40 while people jeer at their appropriately-aged wives (or former wives) for succumbing to menopause-- which as far as I know is inevitable!!!

Yes, I see misogyny in his choices of grossly younger women, in the internet comments demeaning his wife for simply not being young, and ALSO in the actions of these women who enable such piggish assholery from old men. Whatever they may believe about "love", they're certainly doing their part to render older women invisible and unlovable-- may it bite their own selfish doomed-to-droop-one-day asses in the end.

According to WaPo, this one wasn't a mistress, just 'a friend'. Yeah, right.

He was probably cultivating the prospect. There are probably many others.

Personally, I think patraeus's wife knew about the affairs or looked the other way, because potentially she could have been first lady or a vp wife. She had her own motives for turning a blind eye. If she is in the public eye she could definitely use some cleaning up/ makeover. It's not hard to do these days.

I think I love you.

I read Petraeus' daughter's blog and this woman is a family friend of the Petraeus family. Doesn't mean she and Petraeus WEREN'T romantically involved, but I tend to think they weren't and Broadwell just went nuts and came at her. Think about it: if this married woman were involved in an extramarital affair with Petraeus, why would she turn Broadwell's threatening emails over to the FBI and expose everyone, including herself? I think it's more likely she is a family friend, Broadwell didn't like it and/or suspected more, and when she had enough, she had enough and turned it over. I do not think she was a second affair partner.

My dad is 76 and dating a 74 year old woman. Not all men are like this.

I agree with so many. I too thought of the NASA scientist and other things mentioned.

I don't care about the personal lives of public figures unless they affect us and this did. He breached national security.

I don't care if men marry younger women or vice versa. I find this disgusting in part because he betrayed a woman who stood by him through countless moves and deployments and other stresses.

So Jill Kelley goes from "State Dept liaison to JSOC" to " Tampa socialite?" It also seems like Broadwell sensed there was a little something going on between the general and the 37-year-old socialite.

This article makes her look pretty bad! Apparently she walked around telling people she was an ambassador!!!

You can't make this stuff up.

Let's start casting the Lifetime movie now! We need one 60-something actor, and 2 20-something actresses. (Yes, I know the actual women were in their thirties, but c'mon, that's WAAY too old for Hollywood!) Mrs. Petraeus will be played by a 40-something actress.

I don't get Broadwell's motivation, did she find Petraeus attractive? He wasn't attractive even in his younger days.
