Not feminize at all, but my DD BF till around 3yo. She would have likely continued but by 2.5 I was actively cutting her off. I have heard some kids could just go on and on and on and some self wean earlier... I was done and I felt she was old "enough" to move on. It was still emotional, and I'm still glad we moved on.

A friend breastfed her daughter until six. Weird for me but considered necessary in some cultures to avoid starvation. Read last page of "Grapes of Wrath".

It is the infantalizing of the child that makes me uncomfortable - bottle or breast. Would not consider doing either unless my child had special needs past two.

I read a story about a woman who was a wet nurse for nearly all of her life. She was a wet nurse for nearly 60 years and had breastfed continuously her entire adult life. I am someone who loves breastfeeding, so I figure this had to have been a better job than being a cook, housekeeper or a prostitute for poor women.

Oh, 8-9 year olds is nothing. There’s a girl at my daughters school, poor thing is 14 and is still breastfeeding. She’s been constantly embarrassed publicly. Who does that?!
