The PP who originally posted it posted a BLOG COMMENT from a race-obsessed website. It was a freaking comment and the PP used it as evidence for her theory.

Yeah, I'm the poster who originally responded to the person who posted that crap. I figured that out when she refused to even give the URL and then accused me of being angry when I politely asked for it. Bahahaha. Racists are so stupid.

They probably think google is witchcraft. They have to use a good Christian search engine like Bing.

Tsk Tsk. Don't make fun of racists. They are the new minority.

I'm black and this is the case in my family. I can't swim, but I am making a concentrated effort to make sure my children are comfortable in the water. I want to take lessons, but I am pretty fearful in the water (highest I feel comfortable is about 2').

Really? Are you 2'6" tall?

Why the snark? No...but I'm short (5'2") and really don't like to go in higher than my knees. If I'm waist deep and fall on my sides, I panic and can't "right" myself.

Caps alone have had several black players over the past decade. Grant Fuhr is basically a hall of fame goalie. It isn't as short a list as you might think.

Most of the black friends I have didn't grow up swimming. They didn't have cottages or go to lakes / beaches or spend summers camping.

They did talk about not wanting their hair in chlorine.

Their families just didn't spend summers at the pool.

They want to learn to swim now, but still don't want their hair to get wet! they have put their kids in swimming lessons and have come camping so I think at least in my circle, this generation is making changes.

You know that the finals of the sprint races have had Asian and White athletes running at some amazing times, but the focus is always on the Black athletes even when they lose. The media wants to reaffirm that what Blacks do well is run, and only that. They will not remind you that those Asian and White sprinters are some of the BEST and fastest runner in the world. The stereotypes are embedded in what we see.

Are these White/Asian runners winning?

I'm black and I honestly don't want to get my hair wet too much. But it depends on the hairstyle. I have a shorter style that is usually curled, so getting it wet all the time would SUCK. I do my hair to last most of the week. If I went swimming a lot, I would have to wash and curl my hair everyday.

And if I have extensions, it's even worse for maintenance. Constantly wetting the hair and having to wash, dry and curl it would turn into a 1+hour ordeal.

Anonymous wrote:This whole thread is bizarre. Regardless of the role genetics may play, who cares what the statistical average is for my kids' race? The relevant factor would be their individual body and its ability. If they are fast, maybe they should be runners. If they are tall, maybe swimmers or basketball players. And if they really love a sport, they should do it even if their body isn't ideal for it. Because for nearly every one of them, the benefit of sports is in the discipline, the hard work, the focus, the teamwork, and the body development.

So really I don't care about belly buttons, either my kids' actual belly button location or it statistical likelihood to be somewhere based on skin color. I want my kids to participate in sports.

This.

OP -- To address your questions...these are some Sports that whites tend to gravitate to: field hockey, crew, lacrosse, squash, sailing, and skiing for example.

Someone asked about swimming. I am a white woman who coached swimming for many years in black communities. Since many blacks were precluded from swimming pools, many never did have a chance to learn. There is an black Olympic swimmer whose foundation goes out to try to bring swimming to the black community. Drowning is a real/big concern in the black community today. Some blacks still do seriously fear swimming based upon the historical bars to swimming they faced before integration.

What does that have to do with 2012??

Here's a great piece about blacks and swimming that NBC ran during the Olympics last summer.

Racists are stupid. And so are bigots like you.

I am white, I swim, and I spend about an hour showering and doing my hair and makeup. What is different for a black person?
