Recently, I spoke to a White gentleman who said that in high school, he was a very good runner, very fast. He pointed out that he was the only "White kid" on the track team. He also mentioned that part of the reason few Whites end up on the track team is that there are "too many Blacks".
It got me thinking about whether people avoid certain sports because it would require mingling with other groups. Perhaps the same can be said about Blacks and sports like swimming? |

I don't think they necessarily AVOID certain sports; it's a matter of access. You don't see too many urban black kids playing lacrosse.
Methinks you're either a dingbat or a troll. |
| Meh, I am white and have wondered if white kids might avoid football and basketball bc they feel that being white will be a disadvantage and they might not make the team so why bother. And I live in a very white suburb. |
| OP, I guess you don't know the history of black folks and swimming pools in the US? |
What does that have to do with 2012?? |
|
Mostly sports that are expensive:
Snow-related - skiing, snowboarding Lacrosse Used to be golf, tennis and swimming Equestrian-relates sports Fencing Fishing - is this a sport? Biking |
I'll turn this on you by asking another question in response. You don't think things that happened in the 1950s and 60s have an effect on the present? |
Not if you just let it go already! Just about every pool in DC is free and staffed by blacks so what does the 50's and 60's have to do with blacks not swimming in 2012? |
Okay, I see you're either not wanting intelligent conversation or perhaps you're just not capable of it. Have a nice night. |
| I'm guessing you've never seen a track team OP. There are plenty of white kids participating. |
| Car racing! |
Mmm, and yet you did not answer the question... |
