If you are wicked smart, what about your kids?

Why do you ask these type of questions? Insecure? Do you feel you are "wicked smart"?

It all depends on how you raise your kids. Generally, if you are wicked smart, it doesn't follow that your kids are too, but on some cases they are true because you will raise your kids the way you have been raised by your parents.

Raising kids can be hard though.

I'm ok smart, DH is ok smart. 7 year old son just went through neuropsych testing and probably has around 130 IQ.

I love him despite it.

130 places him in the 98 percentile (97 by some standards) which places him in the top 2% of iq's. How smart are you? You obviously don't know much about iq scores.

I am wicked smart. Maybe my kid is, too. Dunno.

I do know he can't seem to turn his homework in on time or do more than a half-assed job.

As Gump said, stupid is as stupid does.

Smart doesn't matter.

I think it's really sad that people are coming up with judgements on how smart their kids are when they are toddlers and preschoolers. I for one know a guy who didn't talk until he was 3 and he is brilliant. My MIL is always doing this with my niece and it drives me nuts...who cares if she learned her letters half a year later than her sister...she's three!

I'm not wicked smart, but my children are smarter than me. I am more experienced, so I still have an intellectual edge, but it's only a matter of time before that advantage will be lost.

People who are truly smart don't use trite, cliche terms like this. Sorry, OP.

Not true. People from Boston use that term -- even some with PhDs.

Kid is smarter according to the WISC with an IQ in the profoundly gifted range. DH and I are pretty smart and went to Ivy colleges and grad schools. But in the end, it's effort that counts and kid is young so hard tell what kind of student he'll be. We're happier that he has good emotional regulation and self control for his age than that he has a high IQ.

I'm really not sure how to answer this, because I believe there are different kinds of "wicked smart." I'm "book smart," and love words, reading, and learning, but higher math makes my head spin and I'm terrible at anything requiring spatial relations. DH is not "quick" verbally, but that man understands how things work like nobody's business, gets "systems," sees the larger picture, and is great at complex math. He can build or fix anything and is very physically aware and athletic. It's early yet, but it appears that DS (6) is much like dad and DD (4) is much like me. Just becaue DH got Cs in Freshman English doesn't mean he isn't "wicked smart" because he can do things that leave me totally befuddled.

Again. Smart people don't use those terms.

ITA. As a kid, I was considered very smart and have the resume to "prove" it. DH was not considered that smart and wasn't pushed in school, yet I would consider him smarter than me and better at life in general. I have 3 kids. The oldest probably has the highest IQ, but man that kid is lazy. My middle child has drive and ambition like nobody's business - I am not worried when he brings home average grades because I know he will always land on his feet. My youngest is super smart and laid back but has an entertainer's personality. Again, I'm not worried. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses - IQ is nothing but a number when you're driven.

1 kid tests at slightly less than I tested. The other kid tests much higher than I tested.
