What if George Zimmerman DID act in self defense?

I believe Zimmerman is racist. Wouldn't he admit to being Hispanic if he was not racist? It is a self hatred.

I think Zimmerman should be arrested and convicted, so I'm not an apologist for him, but where has it been factually shown that he has denied being partly Hispanic? I know he's identified as white on the police report, but has it been said if that was an identification by Zimmerman himself or by the police dept?

No one is saying that is the ONLY evidence. It would be nice if more evidence was collected, but as you know a real investigation was not done.

The 911 calls are strong evidence. They certainly indicate that Zimmerman followed TM. And we know he had a gun. You know, the gun that actually killed TM.

Honestly, I think Zimmerman will walk. The Sanford PD screwed the pooch so much that there will probably be very little evidence to charge and convict Zimmerman.

Here are my problems with the case:

-911 dispatcher told Zimmerman that they didn't need him to follow Trayvon. In essence, they told him to stand down. What's interesting is that the tone of the dispatcher's voice changed when Zimmerman said he was following Trayvon. The dispatcher started quizzing Zimmerman (what's your name, your phone #, is). The dispatcher seemed to sense that Zimmerman was about to go Charles Bronson on him.

-Zimmerman sounded very young on the phone. He also sounded paranoid and frustrated (about them "always getting away"). The possible racial slur doesn't help. Having a guy who is paranoid and frustrated, while armed, is never a good combination. When one also combines this with Zimmerman not being that capable in a good old-fashioned fist fight, this was a recipe for disaster.

-Zimmerman has not given any indication to suggest that he identified himself as Neighborhood Watch when he confronted Trayvon. This is crucial. WE realize, after the fact, that Zimmerman's intentions were possibly good. Trayvon did not know this. He just had some creepy guy following him and could have assumed that Zimmerman was a mugger, murderer and/or child molester.

-Some are asking why didn't Trayvon run when he realized Zimmerman was following him. The people asking this are women. I think you would be hard pressed to find a man (or even an older teen) who would run from a guy that was following him. The most their pride will allow is probably a brisk walk to "lose" the guy.

-Was Zimmerman's gun on safety? Most folks that I know who carry, keep their guns on safety to prevent an accidental shooting. When did Zimmerman take the safety off?

-Zimmerman says that Trayvon was on top of him bashing his head against the pavement. Evidently, he was unable to get Trayvon from off top of him. How then, was he able to reach his waistband to get his gun from his holster?

-If Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman when he shot him in the chest, how did he end up on his face? Wouldn't Trayvon have either 1) fallen backwards off of Zimmerman or 2) fallen on top of Zimmerman, who would have pushed him off...still ending up on his back?

To be clear, I don't believe Zimmerman set out to kill Trayvon. I do think that he racially profiled the teen, but given the stereotype of the violent black teenage man, I can't really blame him for this. The problem comes in when Zimmerman gets out of his vehicle and attempts to "not let this one get away".

At the very least, he should be charged and convicted of manslaughter charges.

The police botched this case. Zimmerman over stepped as the self-appointed neighborhood watch captain:

Chris Tutko, director of Neighborhood Watch for the National Sheriffs’ Association, said Zimmerman broke some cardinal rules.
First, he approached a stranger he suspected of wrongdoing.

“If you see something suspicious, you report it, you step aside and you let law enforcement do their job,” Tutko said. “This guy went way beyond the call of duty. At the least, he’s overzealous.”

Second, Zimmerman carried a handgun. Police departments and sheriff’s offices that train volunteers advise them never to carry weapons — though Zimmerman broke no laws by doing so because he has a concealed-weapons permit.

Nope, it does not matter. We crazy liberal types want justice even if he voted for Obama and speaks fluent Spanish. And for the record, racism isn't exclusively a white phenomenon either, and that's why he can be a racist and not self-hating.

No, it really doesn't. Because someone is Hispanic and/or a Democrat does not mean they are automatically NOT a racist.

I guess the one point that WAS negated from the previous post was the GZ self-identification - valid point.

But someone who would use the language he did in that 911 call cannot for one second claim he's NOT a racist.

Would a racist really tutor black kids on the weekends? Would he like in a predominantly minority neighborhood?
It's just a stretch to me that he's racist. He's probably guilty of murder, that's a different issue.

You can do these things, but still believe negative stereotypes about a race. DCUM is a perfect example of this...folks claim to be enlightened and/or color-blind, but they hold negative stereotypical beliefs about black people. Just see the "I'm an African-American, ask me anything" thread.
