Does anyone really give their kids apple juice?

You realize your children will probably have unprotected sex and do beer bongs from a communal hose one day, right?

If apple juice is where you draw the line I hope to GOD you don't get pocket dialed at 1am when you kid is in college. It could be the end of your perfect world.

All this craziness over arsenic in apple juice. I have never given my kids the stuff. I don't give them soda either. Same thing. Nothing worse than parents that let their toddlers suck down sippy cup after sippy cup of apple juice. That is what causes bottle rot.

I give her an IV of sugar water every day. I figure that gets around the bottle rot situation. Thanks for your concern, bitch.

Wow...I am speechless. I will be more polite than you and leave it at that.

Hi ladies, I just got out of the hospital today. Quit apple juice cold turkey after reading this thread and went through wicked DTs. Use me as a cautionary tale and NEVER give your kids this devil's brew!

I don't give it to them bc of the amount of sugar is so high.
I am not against juice but at home I buy OJ or Pomegranate or cranberry juice and dilute it a bit. They only get it once in a while but mostly drink milk and water. Moderation is key. I do cringe when I see parents offering it at a party but dont say anything.

Please do tell what is acceptable to serve at birthday parties. Water only? Really?

Really? You cant think of anything else to serve other than water and apple juice?? Out of all the juices, Apple Juice has the highest content of sugar. There are a zillion other juices that are not as bad. Apple Juice makes me cringe bc it is the worst choice IMO. I prefer Honest Kids juices, cranberry, white grape, water and chocolate milk for kids parties. I have never seen any kid complain that there was not any apple juice at any of my kids parties. To each there own.

I don't get the rave about Honest Kid juices - its actual juice content is really low. Wouldn't it be healthier to serve a drink that is 100% juice?

I was raised in a home where I never ate sugar or drank soda, my mom used to brag the same way about how great my eating habits were. How healthy I was from all the "nature" food I ate (damn hippies)

Sounds like my family. No sugar in the house PERIOD. Milk or water. No sugar cereals. No snack between meals unless it was fruit or veggies. Cod liver oil, protien shakes with wheat germ, etc. We also had gourmet meals for dinner. I'd complain b/c we never had hotdogs, sloppy Joes, or pasta with red sause. Yes, I ate everything I was given at meals because it was all I knew and the alternative was starving, but when I became a teenager I quickly realized how "good" my friends had it. In college dorms I went crazy exploring all the food I'd been denied my whole life. (Capt'n Crunch, Tater Tots, etc.). I eventually got back on track food wise, but it wasn't easy. My brother has an eating disorder (obese) which he's had since living home.

I'm confident those food nazis will regret their decisions a decade or two from now. In my house now we eat healthy, but I think it's important to allow the infrequent exception. There's no harm, and we're avoiding what might turn out to be an explosive backlash down the road.

My best friend through Elementary school had a mom who didn't keep anything sugary in the house either. They only had grapenuts for cereal and only drank water and tea. Literally every time she came over to our house, she would eat three fruit rollups and drink Kool Aid. It was like she couldn't control herself. And she had horrible food guilt afterward.

yes, just it's just like heroin. I have track marks in my arm from shooting up apple juice.

It's a gateway juice. First it's little sips of watered down apple juice. Then they're doing shots of it full strength. Next thing you know they'll be snorting packets of Kool Aid at recess.

And then they'll be drinking Flavor-Aid. And do you know who ELSE drank Flavor-Aid?

I only give mine home made apple and grape juice made from the fruit grown in our garden - that way I know it's really organic (not that Chinese c$@&). But why the f@&$ didn't anyone tell me it FERMENTS! Toddler juice alkies - not fun!

This is me, totally (except for the food guilt... I felt none. It was GOOOOD). I seriously would pick my friends as a kid based on who had the best snacks at their house and who's parent would most likley take me to McDonald's.
