Illegal immigrants do in fact take jobs that Americans could have. The difference is the wage. Illegals are more willing to work for a lower wage. That's a HUGE difference that folks seem to want to ignore. No one is refusing to do construction work..but what they are refusing to do is to take on such a dangerous job with full benefits and pay at $5.00/hour. No one is refusing to be your child's nanny...but they are refusing to do it for less than minimum wage and no health benefits, etc. Americans just want rock-bottom prices for their shit and illegals are the best way for them to keep up with the Joneses.

Construction jobs, for the most part, are not that dangerous. I know, my brother owns his own company. And the illegals make more than $5/hr. Try $15/hr. The uneducated Americans want more than that because they want to keep up with the Jones'. I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter what color your skin is or what you immigration/citizenship is, manual labor jobs do not rate high pay. Period. Americans want to get paid far more than its worth. Enter the immigrant who is willing to accept the low paying jobs.

Seriously, many uneducated Americans think they should be able to command a $20+/hr salary just because they are Americans. They want a wii and xbox and 50" flat screen tv and HBO and cinemax.

Where are these construction jobs that pay $15/hour? I find it absolutely untrue that Americans shrug their shoulders at making $15/hour. That's an absolute falsehood. And your brother employs illegals? He should be ashamed.

Your stance that Americans feel entitled to make $20+ an hour is a complete crock. Not everyone is looking to impress their neighbors..most are just trying to survive.

I teach ESL to adults and most of my students are undocumented.I really think that if some of you who are so against illegal immigrants were to meet my students, you would change your minds. My students have really difficult lives. They work seven days a week and send all their money home to families in their own countries. Many of them have very young children back in their own country. I can't imagine making that sacrifice if I didn't feel I had to. I just wish people felt a little more empathy. If the only way I could support my family was to break a law, you can bet I would do that. I was incredibly lucky to be born in this country, so I wasn't forced to make the sacrifices that my students have made. But being born in this country was just a matter of luck for me.
