This is me as well. In high school I was very active, took PE every term whether it was required or not, played softball, ran or rode my bike after school etc. I was a size 9 pants and sometimes a 12 in the shirt because I had boobs. I did everything I could to try and be thin and it just wasn't in the cards. I'd be thrilled to be a size 12 again (hell, I'd settle for a 14) and if anyone tried to tell me I was fat I'd knock them into next week! ![]() |
I am 5'8" and at 140 (muscular and fit) I am a size ten. Small waist big hips and boobs. My daughter at 5'5" can be 140 and a size 6, maybe and 8. She carries it in her butt and legs. Other daughter at 5'8" is 135 and a size 4. Have no idea where she carries it. She looks very long and lean. Size means nothing. Thank god I have always told my daughters that . You who think it is about a size are nuts. We all look great in clothes and know what works on us. I think my daughter who is 5'5" is the happiest with her body. Think Sophia Vergara. |
this (obviously leaning more towards chubby as you get shorter) |
Yes, I agree. Age is another important variable - size 12 at 60 seems more within the range of "normal" at that age. (And also looks better than size 4 at age 60, in my opinion, YMMV.) And before anybody jumps on me, I'm not saying size 20 at age 60 is healthy. |

I'm 5'8" and 135 and a size 2/4. So funny how differently sized the same height/weight can be. |
Report back when you're 47, PP. You might find that more weight looks better as you get older. |
Again, it depends on the person's body type. I know this is impossible for some folks on this thread to believe but if you met me and I told you I was a size 14 you wouldn't believe me and I'm 5' 4". |
Yup, i'm a size 12 and i"m fat. So what? I'm not in the market for a date and I'm not so fat it's detrimental to my health. |
I'm the 50-year-old again, who wears a size 12. People really do wear clothing sizes differently. A year or so ago a boss tried to give me her size 6 skirts which no longer fit her, and I had to hand them back. |
Because they were too big or too small????? |
Holy cow people. There was a monster thread on this in Beauty/Fashion forum a few months ago that played out exactly like this.
Why don't we just take the lessons learned from that thread and move on? This is what came of it: Today's size 12 was really a size 18 a few decades ago, and a size 18 in the US is really a size 22 in the UK, and obviously anyone who is a size 22 is obese. So yeah, obese. Or something like that, anyway. |
Too small. Really, read the post more carefully and it will be obvious. |
No, nothing like that, anyway. Size 12 in the US is size 14 in the UK. Think before you post. |
Duh, the poster who wears size 12 looks like she wears a 6. |
