S/O What is the most "out there" name you've heard on a child recently?

Satin. Last name Sheets. If that little girl aint on the pole by the time she's 25, I'd be surprised!

Monsieur Pascal didn't do so bad with that name either.

Girl: Holyn (like a combination of Holly and Lynn) I'd just never heard this before.

Boy: Hockin -not sure I spelled it correctly. Pronounced HAWK in.

I think I worked with a Hollin at one point. I kind of liked it. But I like personally prefer names that are NOT overused.

I used to know a Hollis. She said that people were always surprised to meet her, because they imagined a middle-aged black man when they heard the name.

I knew a Hollis, too, wonder if it was the same one. She was a painter.

Why don't you just let us know who you are so that the rest of us in University Park can stop including you and your children in activities. I'd much rather hang out with the parents of these kids with "out there names" than someone who starts a thread like this and takes so little care to disguise their community.

Boy they are uptight in University Park! The OP thought these names were 'out there', meaning that they are rare or outside the normal set of names we hear all the time. I didn't take it as negative. I think if you have thin skin, you probably should not name your kid 'Infinity'.

I didn't. And I wouldn't think they were uptight; given the cluster of "out there" names, I'd say the opposite.

I guess since this was a new thread and not a list of names posted on the "names I love but" thread I assumed the negative. She's welcome to come back and correct that assumption, I would be happy to revise my opinion in light of new evidence.

21:31 again: I guess the one point I wanted to make was that when you give your kid an interesting name, then people are going to take notice and possibly talk about it. If this thread didn't exist, then I am sure someone, somewhere in that neighborhood would have discussed it or thought about it.

These names are lovely to me, although Hadassah sounds like it from another culture where it could be a normal everyday name. We have so much diversity in this area, no name really surprises me.

Actually it's not. Amande is the French word for almond. Amandine is the adjectival form and also a very common first name as another poster noted. Seneca is a name from classical antiquity, although usually male. Get some education before you start judging.

F*ck off. No one is judging. "Out there" names are purely subjective. A name I find strange might seem perfectly normal to you, this is just for fun
