We specifically searched for quiet generators, which are top dollar.
Having said that, I'm all in favor of even the loud ones, as I realize how much generators save people's asses during black outs. So shut up and deal. People are doing what they can to help themselves. |
I afree! Who arw you people? What a group of weirdos. Its a crisis i' d leave it alone. This is a small blimp in your great big life. |
| Wow - we always turn ours of at night and so do the neighbors around us that have them. It's common curtousy for us. |
I'm n really? We don't; we do let it rest, but that's about it. Why do that to your food? off and on . . . weird |
research your local noise and nuisance ordinances and if it's in violation, let the authorities handle it if they won't relocate it. |

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet in this long thread, but both DH and I use CPAPs at night for sleep apnea. I can't sleep prone without mine and have spent many multiple night power outages "sleeping" in a chair. I finally broke down and got a generator this time.
I'm really sorry if it bothers my neighbors and even sorrier that I'm polluting the air with such an inefficient machine. I hope to upgrade to a quieter natural gas model at some point. But I finally had to make the decision -- I can't function on no sleep after a day or two. |
And your neighbors who can't sleep because of your loud generator... how do you think they are functioning on interrupted sleep after a day or two? |
a few days with interrupted sleep vs. CPAPs for apnea? You must be a moron. |
| NP here. I have a neighbor with a LOUD |
|
Ugh,
LOUD generator which he ran ALL night Friday and we could not sleep. Since then we've left the neighborhood to stay elsewhere. I am hiring someone to install a generator on my property. I do think the right thing to do is shut it off at night if people can't sleep. And I will be sure to offer an extension cord to the nearest neighbor. |
|
So saving your food from spoiling is more important than your neighbors getting peace and quiet during sleep hours?
I do not have a generator, nor have I been bothered by a neighbor's generator, but it blows my mind that people think just because they bought it, they have a right to use it during sleep hours and make their neighbors' lives hell. I just don't get where the entitlement comes from. |
| Those of you who have a generator that is meeting your needs and is quiet - can you post the make and model? |
If you're in McLean, you're our neighbor.
|
sense of entitlement? Do you seriously think that those of us who are self-sufficient b/c we have small kids and elderly parents give a rat's ass about your interrupted sleep? FWIW, we have a pricey brand that it not as noisy as your typical generators. And no, we're not rich - just smart enough to have saved. The well-being of my kids (that they're fed, warm in winter, and clean) and the health of my mother (who's on meds that need refrigeration) are more important to me than your fucking 8 hours of sleep. Get over YOURSELF. |

Do you seriously think that those of us who are self-sufficient b/c we have small kids and elderly parents give a rat's ass about your interrupted sleep? <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Wow. Yes, sense of entitlement. YOU are the problem. YOU, times a couple of million people, are the problem with the whole country. |
