when are SOL scores made available?

Teachers know the scores the same day.

They do not have any impact on his or her grades. The SOL will show that your teacher did not teach well if all of the children's scores are low.I know at our school they stressed how important it was for the kids to do well. They sent home study guides and refesher packets. My child was becomming very stressed about the whole situation until I told her the test did not grade her but were a grade for her teacher. I decided that either she would know it or not and we did not do any of the study guides.

Please consider opting your child out of testing next year....

Are schools supportive of opting out? I would assume th ed would be resistance from the administration.

Are you going to opt out of AP tests, ACT/SAT etc. etc. Your child should not have a problem with passing the SOLs since they are testing the bare minimum. However, if your child has not seen the types of questions they ask, then your child might have a problem. To tell your child that it is a grade for the teacher is ridiculous! If they bomb their tests, blame it on the teacher instead of the student. If the student doesn't prepare/study for a test, the blame goes to the student.

I think they have to take a "0" for that student. That would be frowned upon.

Think about the teacher. Teachers have to set SMARTR goals. Schools set SIP goals. Many times they are based on SOL scores.

dont opt out.

SOL have had a positive impact overall. More resources were given to my DC when they had troubles with SOL. Never would have happened without SOLs

in the mail over the summer.

SOL scores at our school were given out to all the kids. They took home a printed copy of their scores. I hope they made it home!

So Were AAP 6th graders given both 6th and 7th SOL math or 7th only? Thanks!

No, I am a AAP 6th grader and I took my math SOL today. I believe that AAP 6th graders only take the math 7 SOL, considering that we took the 6th grade SOL in 5th grade.
