when are SOL scores made available?

In FFX county, my middle schooler got his SOL scores in June 2011. He took most of his SOL tests on the computer but also took a paper writing test.
I am anxiously waiting for my rising 5th grader SOL scores in the mail. I was going to factor his scores into a decision on his schooling but clearly they don't leave much room before school starts.
That said, I read elsewhere that the VA Dept of Educ actually mails the SOL scores out but can't find confirmation of this on their website.

We received SOL scores in today's mail as well.

For those wondering, they come directly from the school, not from the state.

So my question is: what does it all mean? DS had a lowish score on one test, which surprised me. Passing, but not by much. His grades in subject were solid, so perhaps an off day or a few questions just threw him.

Mine too. DD got a perfect score in math, but her reading was low-ish.

I have an AAP 3rd grader. I thought the AAP 3rd graders would also take the 4th grade math SOLs. There is not score for that. Does that mean DC did not take it? (I assume). Did some AAP 3rd graders take the 4th grade math SOLs and some not?

AAP students take their grade level math SOL (with the exception being those 6th graders who are trying for Algebra in 7th grade)
However, I have heard rumors that will be changing with this upcoming school year.

Like some pp's, our scores were also surprising.

All scores were pass advanced, but I didn't expect the perfect score in Math.

Grade 3 in compacted math/AAP math took the grade 3 SOL
Grade 4 in compacted math/AAP math took the grade 4 SOL
Grade 5 in compacted math/AAP math took the grade 6 SOL
Grade 6 in compacted math/AAP math took the grade 7 SOL

I know there are some circumstances where individual AAP students took different math SOLs, but those are the exceptions. (There was a 3rd grader at my DC's AAP center that took the grade 6 SOL.)

This school year (2011-2012) all this changes with the new math sequence.

Thanks for info (I was the one who asked about the 3rd/4th grade SOL). I was just wondering if it meant my child was behind or something, but it sounds like it didn't. Thanks!

We just got back from vacation and got our scores. It was just one sheet (as in a brief letter) listing the scaled scores. I thought per the link below that they send you a report that lists the number of questions the kid got right in addition to the scaled scores, margin of error, lexiles, etc. Did anyone get a report like the one shown in this link or did you just get a brief letter as well?
