Do you masticate the food before giving to your LO?

Anonymous
New poster here. Born and raised in a Home Country called the USA. I co-sleep, let my kid run around naked, breast fed until well past 2 and, yes, I also sometimes pre-chewed my kids food. I didn't learn any of that from my mom or grandma, I just did it because it seemed natural and normal.

And, I have lots of friends who did the same. Many of these friends are people I met well after the kids started school. If you are chewing your kids food, you are not alone.

PP, you should read the article before posting...

Like I said before, you will only pass an infection if you have it. If you're a healthy adult who keeps up with your hygiene habits there's nothing to worry about like spreading diseases.

You mean you can't pass along an infection you DON'T have? Really? I had no idea.

I'm sorry for being so obvious. The PP was having a very hard time understanding the issue so I tried to be a little more didactic.

So you get tested for all of these infections every day? Every week? Every month? Are you absolutely sure that you are clear of all of the bacteria mentioned in the article (there was a whole list, not just HIV)? I thought not.

Why do YOU care about how OP feeds HER child? Is OP chewing the food and offering them to YOUR children? I thought not.

i'm still wondering what's wrong with just using a Cuisinart? I got one for twelve bucks at Target.

I doubt the twelve buck model can add in the enzymes that help break down proteins before the food hits the child's digestive system, thus preventing immune response to certain complex proteins and helping prevent allergies.

I could be wrong, though.

Again, do you have ANY {legitimate} data to support your theory?? I am genuinely interested to know where this idea came from and if it has been supported in scientific research. I have a friend who is an allergist and he said that he had never heard of this theory. He did say that exposure to foods that are common allergens (like peanuts) during pregnancy and breastfeeding could decrease the likelihood of the child having such an allergy (the idea is that the sooner the exposure, the less chance of allergy to the nut protien). But he had never heard of masticating your LO's food to prevent food allergies...please, reveal your sources!!!

Just gross. No I do not prechew my kids food. I'm not an animal and neither are they. So, to all of you who believe in it and do it. Please, stay home.

please first tell me what "masticate" means, and then I will let you know. if its something similar to masturbate, then no I do not. if it has to do with eating food and then giving it to my kid, umm no, that is what a knife is for.

My LO likes to masticate the food before giving it to me.

Fucking disgusting is the crap that goes in the formula you feed your children and brag about it.

Who does this?? I formula fed both my DC's and tried my hardest to keep it a secret because I was so embarrassed/ashamed that I couldn't breastfeed them. You are an ass.
