Do you masticate the food before giving to your LO?

I dont, but I also do not think it is gross. Once we got past the pureed phase, a fork worked fine, plus I do not think that I have the patience to sit an chew my baby's food.

I thought this was going to be a joke when I saw the thread title... It's not a joke, WTF? No I don't basically spit in my child's mouth. My mouth is super effing germy and I'm not going to share that with him. I don't even like really wet or tons of tongue french kisses. That is weird.

FWIW, I make all my son's food from scratch and it's not that hard. Honestly, I prefer that he eats something I make separately because he shouldn't have salt but fat from olive oil is good for him. I like seasoned foods, I don't like foods that are high in fat, even if it is good fat.

do you realize your saliva is loaded with good things too? all the enzymes your child still can't produce, probiotics he doesn't have yet and the loads of antibodies your strong body can pass to his still developing little body.

some people think breast milk is gross, go figure...

I breastfeed my son, I think it is totally normal. I would never chew my food and give it to him. He can get probiotics from yogurt.

Well, it's one way to spread disease

PP, don't worry, you'll only pass the disease if you already have it. Like any other practice, we have to make sure we're healthy before sharing body fluids with our LOs.

Do you lick your finger and rub the dirt off your child's cheeks when you have a cold? I guess not. Do you wash your hands and face more often when you have the flu but still has to handle your infant? I hope yes.

Same goes for food sharing. If you're not healthy look for other options.

No. The closest I've come is to bite off some to make it bite size.

No. But I saw the mom on Mad Men doing this! Maybe it was done in the 60's?

My brother, a dentist, specifically warned me not to do that --

PP, you should read the article before posting...

Like I said before, you will only pass an infection if you have it. If you're a healthy adult who keeps up with your hygiene habits there's nothing to worry about like spreading diseases.

why on earth would you chew the food before giving it to your baby? I can't for the life of me understand why this would be necessary?

You do realize that you can brush your teeth and still get cavities, right? And that you can have an infection before tooth decay sets in?

Where did you get your DDS?
