senses of a child--new daycare in 16th street heights?!

not long after calling to follow up on some of thing said here, in this forum, we decided to call DC licensing department and found out that they do NOT have any license!!! this is so upsetting!!! we pulled our child out because of some serious issues and concerns with management, which is the mother (doctor of drama lee) and her daughter!!! save your child and your time, and do your own due diligence! if this forum is not convincing enough, try calling dc regulatory licensing department at 202-442-5872 (to see for yourself or to make a complaint). let us just say, they know them by name and encouraged us to file a FOIA request to receive more info on record.

or you can pull up all the public court records from maryland and DC -- under "senses of a child" and or "lexus childcare development"

we'd like to hear more about what people find out or what your experiences are with this organization. please reply.

and, good luck with your little ones!

I would like to hear more about why you refer to Dr .Lee has Drama....we went ther to visit but ended up having a bad feeling after meeting her and reading this string. we placed our child in Brightstart instead. Sounds like we made a good decision, but since this place is so close to our home, I did want to hear more specifcs

I actually thought about using this daycare because i live very close by. I can see the building from my window. I decded against it for several reasons. One being several disturbing things going on in front of the building including an incident that involved the police. A couple of weeks ago several men were standing in front of the building. They seemed very angry and were yelling and cursing very loudly One of the daycare workers was standing amongst them. It was quite scary to think that children were inside and this sort of thing was going on that involved someone working there. I would NOT leave my child there.

No daycare is perfect. I have seen all the negative comments about the daycare before I sent my child there but I still decided to give it a try. She has been there for 1+ yrs and is doing just fine. She is always very happy when she is dropped off and is greeted with open arms. I am always pleasantly surprised how excited she is to show me what she learnt for the day. Did I mention she always has homework?
Anytime I visit the children are all happy and playing, having a nap or sitting around the table having a meal. Some of the comments here are scary to read, but my experience has been good so far.

Hi,
I was really hoping this place would work out since it is so close, but it sounds like a tough choice. Are there any other places in the neighborhood folks can recommend?
thanks!

There is an in-home daycare in 16th Street heights run by a woman named Marilyn. There are some posts on DC Urban Moms about it:

I've heard good things about Marilyn from folks in the neighborhood.

There's also a new Centronia on Upshur Street / 13th Street.

There's also a Le Petite Academy on Michigan Ave / North Capital. We looked at that place and it seemed nice (muuch nicer than Senses).

My child was in Senses for about 8 months. We pulled our child out because of the same reasons other people pulled their children out. I don't recommend this place. While I do believe Dr Lee and her daughter like kids, they are a m.e.s.s. and they lie quite a bit. It is better and easier to just not deal with them. I wanted to like this place but it didn't work out.

Well, this thread certainly spiraled down hill and is now commiserate with the level of care provided by the good folks at Senses. Oh, I'm sorry...all the good folks were either fired or left because they quickly realized that this place is so poorly managed.

Its obvious that the person or persons on here are angry and bitter and can not move forward. Being vindictive will not help. These post are personal and has nothing to do with the daycare, staff or care of children. Life is too short.

Be careful of what you put out there. Making false statements can cause a problem you may not be prepared to handle. "False Light".....
