What do you think about Stella and Dot jewelry?

Is this my experience only?

This is really a scam

THe same thing happened to me. The necklace that I thoroughly examined at the party was NOT the same necklace that I received. The necklace at the party was handled by a large group of women; it was well made. The necklace I received was much flimsier in comparison and looked like something I bought at a dollar store -- garish and tacky looking. It was so flimsy that when I took it out of the box and gently untangled it, one of the links just cracked and fell off. The links of "silver" were so threadlike and fine that they didn't even lie straight, they were bent. This necklace would not survive being touched by 12 women. It was constructed poorly with cheap, cheap materials. Can't believe the thing was over $80. I could have gone to the mall and bought something similar for under $20. Complete and utter ripoff. Don't buy their stuff.

I have several Stella and Dot pieces and like some of them. Some of them tarnished really quickly though. The teardrop goddess earrings, which I loved, one of them turned yellow and the other's still silver. Most of it seems to be decent quality.

I've been buying earrings here and while they're still expensive, the quality's excellent: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bluehourdesigns

My "good friend" has also convinced my husband to buy this junk from her. It was one of 5 or so birthday presents last month. When I opened it, I was like, "oh, ok"..."I guess she convinced him to buy a piece of that junk". Now my other gifts were really nice, so I overlooked it. But then we have an "argument" about gifts and I find out by looking in my stocking there is another creepy S&D box!!

I'm livid and plan to speak to my friend about selling this junk to my husband. Yes, he's an adult and should know better, especially as he previously observed the stuff is hideous. However, she pestered a family member at my daughter's christening about S&D and now this! Totally overstepping the line! I don't know if she's pressuring him or what but I'm upset about it. I have a lot of nice jewelry from my husband and I don't appreciate the downhill trend w/the costume crap! I'd rather fewer gifts not lesser quality.

I had a real problem with delivery. I ordered a bracelet on November 30, 2012. Wondered what was happening when everyone else from the party I attended started to receive their orders. I had to log on to the website, create an account, which I didn't want to do, and which told me absolutely nothing about the status of my order..which prompted me to call the number on their website. After a half-hour of holding I was connected to a customer service rep who, again, who tell me nothing other than the fact that my order had not been filled....this was the third week in December. I call the rep from the party and she promised to get back to me..which she did...only to tell me that my order was on back order and I would receive it sometime around Christmas. I have yet to receive it. I never received an email informing me of the delay, or informed that there was a problem of any kind and as I have relayed above, received no assistance from the customer service reps...horrible horrible customer service!!!!

I have been contemplating becoming a Stylist for Stella and Dot. I make my own jewelry and I sell them online and to friends. I love jewelry so naturally i gravitated towards S&D. I feel like I will be doing my self a disservice to become a seller for S&D when I make better quality jewelry with real gemstones. I am confused because I hear mixed reviews. The stuff looks good online but I am iffy about quality, and especially the price!

Amen. I avoid these like the plague.

I absolutely love Stella & Dot jewelry! Most of the jewelry pieces are so unique looking, I haven't been able to find anything similar any where. The more expensive pieces I wouldn't buy for myself but that's where hosting a party is awesome. I hosted one and earned $350 in free jewelry and it was just a fun girls night. People who didn't want to come, didn't and people who wanted to come and loved the jewelry, did. I ended up having 30 people there from every aspect of my life and every one had a blast! As far as I know, no one has had to return anything. Some jewelry tarnishes, no matter where you get it from- even Sterling Silver. Sterling Silver is not made with 100% silver (it would be IMPOSSIBLE to mold jewelry because silver is too soft) so it's the other percentage of metal in there that makes it tarnish. Every woman who has a large jewelry collection should own a polishing cloth. You can find them SO cheap and all it takes is a couple wipes before you wear it & the jewelry looks beautiful. Plus, Stella & Dot sends out in the boxes a piece of paper with caring instructions. I understand there 3 month policy, because after that damage that gets done is probably from the user. If I wear a necklace with a delicate chain 24/7 and it breaks after 6 months of sleeping in it, or tossing it around so the chain gets tangled- I wouldn't expect it to be allowed to get returned.
Bottom line is the jewelry is BEAUTIFUL, if it's too expensive- don't buy it or host a party.

I'm 99% sure you're a rep. You speak as if you drank the rhinestone Kool-aid.

I think Stella and Dot is really pretty, but the quality is not that high. they don't even use sterling or real gold platting or anything.

Try Contagious Creations Jewelry they have really cute pieces that are similar and way better quality with actual real gemstones too!

Can I ask how you know that they don't use "real" sterling or gold plating? What other type of gold or silver plate would they be using? I know different pieces are constructed of different metals - some of the silver is rhodium plated and some is not. Everything I have seen, either in person or on the website, is either gold/silver plated or solid Italian bronze.

I looked on the Contagious Creations website - all the pieces are the same style. Since CC goes up to at least $415 for one of the necklaces and all of the styles are basically the same, I don't think it's an apples to apples comparison. CC appears to be artisan created and will appeal to a narrow demographic - although it is beautiful. Stella is mass-produced and does appeal to a wider demo. Though they do have some high priced items, they also have items that are $24 (Soiree Studs, among other studs) that are gorgeous and can be styled a number of different ways.

I own a boutique, and having seen what's out there to stock my shop with, I appreciate the style that's put into Stella & Dot. I understand the business model and that that's what necessitates the high prices. I can't say I didn't wish it were different, but it's working for a TON of ladies out there and the company seems to be growing like crazy. They are doing something right. I think the quality was better several years ago, but that was before the massive growth they've experienced over the last two years. I can only hope my boutique sees a little bit of that growth.

I got caught in the "obligation" of buying from a friend- and chose the cheapest S and D possible- a spiral bracelet for 38 bucks. I was shocked when it arrived - cheapest piece of jewellery I have ever bought.

- I agree- looks like they have one for you to see to get the sale and then ship you a cheap piece of crap in the cheapest box possible. Certainly not what the sales person shows you.
I could have bought it at Target for 8 or 9 dollars tops. Never again.....

And, if it's such awful jewelry, as some are claiming, then don't buy it. I disagree. I have pieces, love it, and it's great, well-made & well-designed fashion jewelry. Send it back if something is wrong with a piece, the company takes returns. And, too, the party plan business model has been around since Sarah Coventry first started the Home Party Business in the 1950s & it was hugely successful, just like S & D is today. Lots of people like it, so those who are writing must be the very few who have had some pieces come to them that were not acceptable. Just send it back! And stay home, please, 'cause parties with negative people are no fun!

Awesome!

There is no 'spiral bracelet for $38 from S&D - and there are $19 bracelets! S&D actually has pieces that Target has replicated -and they are cheaper from Stella & Dot! The pink soirée studs are $24 - $29.99 from Target - S&D 14k gold - not gold from Target!
