Does anyone else find Dora the Explorer annoying?

You should love Dora...the next step up is iCarly and Victorious. Which is just a gateway drug to get your child begging to go see One Direction or Victoria in concert at $80 a pop.

We killed our TV. The kids watch movies streamed from Netflix or DVDs we have bought. Decision was largely based on my desire to not have to listen to some of the more annoying TV shows.
I did like Noggin back in the day, before it was Nick Jr.
Little Bear was a great show. More old school, telling nice funny stories with attractive animation.

Fucking Thomas. I cannot stand that show. I don't understand how it doesn't put children to sleep.

Some consider anything offensive. People looking to be offended are going to be. By Aunt Jemima, Dora, Kai Lan, tuesdays, green leaves, door knobs...

Read Anthony Bourdain's take on kids shows, it's pretty funny:

My 3.5 year old goes through phases. Right now, she's obsessed with Dora.

She used to love Hip Hop Harry (I actually like this show and was bummed when DD moved on), Sid the Science Kid, Caillou (OMG....that show was on an endless loop for MONTHS...even now she'll sometimes get a jonesing for some Caillou), Olivia, Dinosaur Train, Sesame Street, etc.

Right now she's all about Dora, Peppa Pig & Lil Bill (who I agree is boring as hell). She's also an "American Dad" fanatic, but I won't go into that.

On the plus side, I do think my daughter has learned a lot. She knows some Spanish words, her vocabulary is awesome and she can recognize her alphabets.

Us too. Got rid of cable. Saves us money and we can stream whatever we want on Amazon or limit ourselves to tolerable DVds. Love it.

Caillou has a winy voice. And really, has anyone ever answered the most important question about that show? Why is he bald?

Little Bill is the worst show on television. I wanted it to be good since it was created by Bill Cosby. But it's just so horrible.

This is the reason we cut this show off. Used to be my son's favorite. The whining is just horrible. I'll take Dora over Caillou any day.

How can you not like characters named Tyrone and Uniqua?

My daughter also likes Doc McStuffins.

Any show that your child becomes addicted to and obsessed with is going to get on your nerves.

My oldest child was obsessed with Mr. Rogers for about six months. DH and watched so many episodes that we began to discuss the lesbian overtones of the relationship between Lady Elaine and the other female characters in the Land of Make Believe. And was Mr. McFeely committing mail fraud?

And let us not forget Curious George, a friendly monkey whose Colonialist yellow hatted overlord kidnapped from his home and then parades him about town.

Dora - ugh. I find her almost as irritating as Barney, which is saying a lot. I won't let my kid watch Kai Lan because I'm secretly convinced it's Chinese communist propaganda. I also won't allow Caillou because he annoys the everliving sh*t out of me. And if I hear the Super Why song one more time I'm going to punch someone. My ex can't stand Max and Ruby and he has a weird aversion to Ming Ming from Wonder Pets.

My daughter (now 3.5) loved Yo Gabba for ages and I didn't mind that too much. She's on Fresh Beat now, which I can tolerate, and she also likes Olivia and Chloe's Closet, which I don't find too irritating.

"CAN YOU FIND THE ROCK? THE ROCK? CAN YOU FIND IT? DID YOU? DID YOU FIND IT? THE ROCK! THE ROCK!"

It drives me up the wall.

And the last reason...the map song. Who wrote the map song?!?!?!

"I'm a map I'm a map I'm a map I'm a map I'm a map map map map map map map map map"

Yes! Makes me want to bash her over the head with a rock. Sadly, my DD loves her.
