Does anyone else find Dora the Explorer annoying?

Both Dora and Deigo drive me nuts. Several other kid's shows are just as bad.

Some I can stand however. Toot and Puddle, Franklin, Jack's Big Music Show, etc on Nick Jr. (formally Noggin) aren't so bad.

"CAN YOU FIND THE ROCK? THE ROCK? CAN YOU FIND IT? DID YOU? DID YOU FIND IT? THE ROCK! THE ROCK!"

It drives me up the wall.

And the last reason...the map song. Who wrote the map song?!?!?!

"I'm a map I'm a map I'm a map I'm a map I'm a map map map map map map map map map"

OP here....sooo true. The coqui song is the worst: a Chicana girl singing a song about a Puerto Rican frog, its like if you had a Midwestern boy with a banjo......soooo ignorant and silly.

i barely know english and i notice how badly written your post is. how could we expect you would appreciate good quality shows for children anyway, right?
how many languages do your children speak?

Actually, the repetition and long pauses for answers and high pitched voices are based on developmental research on how preschoolers think and respond. I remember reading an interview with the creator of Blues Clues which discussed how they did all this research, and how the adult brain processes information very differently etc. So these shows are by design not going to appeal to you. As a parent, you really need to understand this. Seems sort of obvious to me...

Here. Not taking a position on this, but there is an intent behind the things we think are annoying.

Preschool age children like the predictability of repetition, music with a beat, colorful images and a sense that the entertainer is personally engaging them. Adults like some of these things, others not so much. Frankly, while I cannot possibly comprehend the appeal of Yo Gabba Gabba, I do like when artists like the Roots or Andrew Bird perform outside of their normal personas. I guess it's like the current top forty music-I don't get it but I love me some old fashioned rock n' roll or blues or soul. The thing that bothers me the most about certain children's programs is the merchandising behind them. DTE is a prime offender, along with Disney. Cranking out movies with the intent of selling all types of products even vaguely associated with them is the true crime against helpless parents.

I heard from a child development expert who hates Baby Einstein (as I do) that they're not educational at all - they just do an excellent job of holding kids' attention.

You can't come up with a more pretentious name that one using 'Einstein.'

Its all crap. I actually like Max and Ruby because I think its entertaining and that's why we let DC watch TV. For entertainment not education.

Annoying? OP, having a rock in your shoe that you can't get out is annoying. Having a grain of sand in your eye is annoying. Dora is several orders of magnitude worse than that. Having said that, it's real;ly not targeted at you.

If I have to listen to a kids' show, I prefer Dinosaur Train.

The Fresh Beat band is playing on a continuous loop in the ninth circle of hell. They just may be the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Dora is actually pretty cool. I can't stand how over marketed she is...but I think she is a good role model.

Kai Lan? She speaks pretty condescendingly to her grandpa. I'd like to think that a real Chinese grandpa would not engage in that crap.

Calliou, as someone else mentioned is a bald, whiny, little bitch. Is his chemo making him so needy?

Sid is disturbing as well. All of them are drawn to be racially ambiguous in a very heavy handed, annoying way.

I echo positive reviews of Max and Ruby, Peppa Pig, Olivia, old Thomas before it became animated....

I like Max and Ruby and Olivia. DS has been really into Backyardigans lately, which is preferable to Dora or Blues Clues in my book.

British cartoons are way less annoying to me for some reason.

We've gone through phases of liking different shows and right now my 2.5 LOVES Dora. This post struck me as funny b.c I just said to my husband yesterday, I think that, in hell, they have the voices of the Dora characters playing on a continuous loop. I can tolerate most of the kids' shows but I find Dora to be AWFUL. I don't understand swiper no swiping and the voices are grating.
